Violent Jockey`s

JOCKEY Gavin Lerena has accepted a R10,000 fine for hitting Simply Blue on the head at the Vaal last Thursday. He signed an admission of guilt. Half the fine has been suspended for a year.

A number of other jockeys have landed in hot water with the National Horseracing Authority’s stipendiary stewards:

* R1,000 fines have been issued to: Francois Herholdt (raised wheals on the right flank of Stunning Jet, 3 March); S’manga Khumalo (raised wheals on the right hindquarter of Liana, 28 February)

* R250 fines: Derreck David (Jet Legend, 10 March); Grant van Niekerk (Kiss And Tell); apprentice Niven Marday (Aggravacious, 29 February); Ray Curling (Golden Occasion, 27 February); Billy Jacobson (Celebration, 17 February); Wayne Agrella (Lunar Lee, 17 February)

* Warnings: work-rider Jackson Feni (raised wheals on the right hindquarter of Lecture Moments, 6 March); Robert Khathi (Staten Island, 25 February); Neo Qaule (Ajaccio, 20 February); Marco van Rensburg (Eloise, 20 February); Jassurick Jordaan (Funny Glory, 17 February)

* Suspensions: Marco van Rensburg (one week – Divine Invitation, 3 March); Ian Sturgeon (one week – Beat The Odds, 3 March); Derreck David (14 days (seven days suspended for one year) – Agapanthus Nana, 28 February)

In another incident at Kenilworth on 19 February, jockey Bernard Fayd’herbe, riding Target Five, “accidentally” struck Mystic Jet on the head at the 100m mark. No action appears to have been taken.

Is this the LITTLE MAN SYNDROME at work here ?????

What u are actually missing is the fact that this is CRUELTY to Horses ??????

Superstar then why not give up playing the horses if you feel so strongly about it?

Same as suspension, why do the 'top jocks' not get suspended so much as the other jocks, they normally just get a fine or warning...

Homer/Superstar, I really don't know, are those fines not a mere drop in the ocean for a jockey or do many of them earn very little? And how can you over-use a whip on Aggravacious??? That horse will struggle to win a donkey derby!!

I dont only play horses Gregbucks I own ,breed and race horses and if any LITTLE dick head beats my horse over the head I will hit him over his head ,no let me rephrase that I will kick him so hard between his legs that he will have balls on top of his head .
Is this how professional MEN behave ?
Because the bottom line is that there is enough cruelty in this game, do we need more ?

I agree with you, they are mos called "proffesional jockeys" so they must do their work professional.

Super S hitting a horse over the head is not always a deliberate action ..when a jock is riding a horse out he can quite easily hit the horse next to him across the head does not mean there was any malice...as was the case with Bernard hence no fine..

Why thanks Tich , in Bernards case can U understand the error but the above states that Lerena was fined for hitting Simply Blue ,
so stop trying to make excuses for Very Bad BEHAVIOUR.
