i have been following kennilworth for a while and have noticed a trend . try to establish when a jock has a rest before and after mounts . eg . du ploy has a mount in the 1st , 3rd and 7th . he then has a rest in the 2nd , which keeps him fresh for the 3rd , then a further 3 races of rest before his last mount for the day . then check the results for the day . jocks like minnot has a 1 race strike for the day on a horse priced between 10/1 to 66/1 and places - check results .

Way below average riders don't get mounts.....trust me it's not their choice to have 1 ,2 or 3 rides a day!!!!!!!

the point is being missed here . you follow any jockey , even bernhard or karl and if they have a rest , they seem to deliver fresh or if it the last mount for the day for that jock . the same applies to the trainers . if he has 2 horses for the day ( note : any trainer ) , the trend is that the horses finish in the first 3 . i could be proven wrong but as a punter this should be slotted in when studying for the meeting and not only the form of the horse or the strike rate of the jock .

What has all this got to do with the ability of a horse or the jock..thats the only thing that counts...some jocks have full cards and ride 4 or 5 winners....you talking nonsense

wow , fc . why are you so upset . a forum is to encourage interest and debate . if you read with an ounce of understanding what i have said , you will realize that i never blocked of the ability of the horse and jock , but added that the number of mounts of the day and the time between such mounts should be noted in studying the meeting for the day . i stress that i have not said that the ability of the horse and jockey should not be considered , these are the main factors . oh , and i do know what i am talking about . here are a few notes apart from the above two - 1. course - has the horse run on the course before , if yes note distance , first time around the bend , etc . 2. trainer and owner - big owners are the lifeline of a stable , note when they are on course as well . 3. draws - guess you can figure that one out . 4. prices - see if the horse shortened in the betting ( last 5 runs ) , this would indicate confidence in training . 5. finish - note if the horse was gaining ground and the 400m to finish time . 6. note excuses - eg. baulked for a run , pulling as this would not reflect the true ability of a horse . 7. breeding - bred for distance .... i assume that this is the normal way to study form . i have only asked for the purist to debate the point of resting of the jockey as this will have him fresh and better equipped to get the best of his next mount . and for fc ( note my name , i am not hiding who i am ) , i am only a punter that is trying to have a meaningful exchange , for a better understanding of racing ( the purpose of a forum ) . the next time understand my point first . do not misquote and believe that you have a point .

Raven, I agree with your point, Jockeys make up a % of the chance your horse has of winning, a well rested hungry young jockey is far better than having an old man that has had 5 rides already that afternoon and doesn't have the ability or strength anymore to ride at his best. Please do the game a favour and retire Karl and Glen.

@russeldavie...can you or anyone explain why the likes of bass and kannemeyer continue to use karl as their 1st choice...many seem to think he is a liability

Im not sure, maybe its a closed shop or something, Maybe its there long standing owners who want them. I am not a owner, or an insider in the cape game. Just my opinion, race 6 yesterday Savannah Leigh if you swap the jockey you swap the result. Im not trying to have a go at Karl or Glen. I think Karl is one of the best judges of pace and timing I have ever seen, I just think he is passed his best and he should move over and give the youngsters a chance. Glen im just not a fan of I think he was past his best years ago when he was riding for Airey and Saunders. But that is just my opinion!!!

FC you cant tell me that you think these two are as strong as, Gavin Lerena, Richard Fourie, Karis Teetan, Marcus or Delpech.
