Scotia after the festive season :(
13 years 5 months ago
Good afternoon to you all and hope you survived the festive season and for the many still on the roads this weekend please take care and get home safe.
We enter 2012 on a very positive note as far as the site is concerned and hope we can keep the growth going with the help of your contributions, must say never a dull moment and always something new to talk about in the sport of kings and whatever else is on your mind.
Here are a few of the festive highlights
Anabolic Steroids.....we await the NHRA?
Should tellytrack be asking trainers about their runners?
Plus numerous posts on the weekend racing..........have a look.
We have a rather depleted Paddock Stakes with the scratching of Igugu and we hope she will be back on track for the MET?
will the star make the Met?
However should still be a good contest and my money is on Emerald Cove to beat Beach Beauty after an impressive last run.
I will be sticking with the Snaiths who deserve to have a good day for the effort they put into promoting racing and it will be superb if Ebony Flyer rises to the occasion and it will do my bookies balance no harm.
Ebony Flyer
With all eyes on the Cape don't forget about racing on Sunday at the big T where PJ, DWTD, The Apache and Golden Sword clash.
Looking further forward we are all in limbo as far as Igugu/Met is concerned and we may have a statement from MDK as this is being distributed, but hoping for good news, sure it wont be an easy task with the set back but if anyone can overcome "second run after a run" plus only one race since July it has to be the big guy.
Plus not forgetting the sprint: JJ vs WAW vs VDR....................could be the race of the season?
Thinking positive and that Igugu does pay for our MET trip, we might have something left to manage a ticket to Cheltenham in March where things are taking shape but still some speculation.
For the lads that have already booked (Molly/Les) here is something to get you in the mood.
13th Mar: is the Arkle where Sprinter Sacre 5/2, Peddlers Cross 6/1, Al Ferof 7/1? Cue Card 10/1 (my fancy) Menorah 14/1 should ensure a good race. Champion Hurdle has Hurricane Fly at 2/1 after some impressive work, Grandouet 7/1, Zarkandar 8/1, Spirit Son 8/1 and not forgetting the star Binocular 12/1.
Quevenga could well be the banker of the day at 13/10 in the DN Mares as the Supreme Novice at this stage is wide open with Steps to Freedom at 10/1.
14th: Champion Bumper a bit early to call where Champagne Fever and The New One are around 13/1, the Chase has Sizing Europe 5/2, with the dangers Big Zeb 5/1, Finians Rainbow 7/1.
RSA Chase where Grands Crus is 4/1 but guess it will go for another race and it might be worth taking the 11/2 on Bobs Worth, who ran a bit erratic at Kempton and "worth" another chance.
15th: where Grands Crus is also in the betting for the Jewson and again if it goes for the Cup might be better taking a bet on Silviniaco Conti at 10/1 at this stage. Ryanair where Riverside Theatre is my early fancy 10/1, I have no doubt that Big Bucks 7/10 will win the World Hurdle again!

Long Run V Kauto Star re-match
16th: Gold Cup day, where Kauto 4/1 will again clash with Long Run 5/2 not forgetting Grands Crus 10/1, although Kauto would appear to be be jumping better than ever, the Cheltenham fences can be a real test and this time my brain will rule my heart and will go for Long Run (ear plugs removed) but if Kauto wins sure the horse would rather have kept them in.
Just to touch on the football as we have plenty experts on the site, my teams Newcastle and Hearts are doing well but sadly again not looking like winning anything.
Celtic have taken the lead in Scotland 5/10 and the Gers 22/10 will find it hard to pull back and the betting without the "old firm" is Motherwell 6/10 and my bet the Jambos at 3/1.
EPL looks like City hard to catch 5/10 but Sir Alex 33/10 might again have something up his sleeve? with Spurs 10/1 the only danger to the Manchester giants.
Spain is anyone's call with the big 2......................Real and Barca......................evens the pair.
As far as a joke or a story to end, just before Christmas I was in Joburg and they were selling small dogs in baskets that really were cute and came with batteries so you could watch them breath, so I thought I will catch Mrs S out.
We went for a meal and a few drinks and told her that I had bought her an early present, when we arrived home I asked if I could go in first to get her present ready.
I put it on the bed with subdued lighting and told her to be quiet as it was still sleeping, it was a little fox terrier?
She was rather silent to start with (Mrs S not the dog) and then shouted at me "why did you not buy me a white Maltese poodle, you know that is what I wanted" I was battling to keep a stright face but insisted the pet shop would exchange.
We had another glass of wine and then she said sorry, its a lovely wee dog and we will take care of it!
When she went back after much shouting and crying and discovered it was not real, she went crazy and I think the last words she says was "you sick bastard"
Now I dont want to take sides as my mates thought it was very funny and Mrs S mates agree that it was a sick thing to do.
I will however be taking more thought next year when buying the presents
ps anyone want a puppy, very low maintenance.
Good punting and may your God be with you in 2012

The Jambos don't need payment they do it for the love but did enjoy the visit to the childrens home over the festive season, where Jason aged 6 says " you should have seen the look on the Hearts players faces, when they opened their presents"

I was at a party the night Hearts hammered Hibs and a few of the Hearts players told me that it was the easiest match that they have played in for years. They said that Hibs players have no self belief and that they will be relegated.
