CLAIRWOOD SUNDAY SWITCHED TO GREYVILLE

MEDIA RELEASE

15 DECEMBER 2011

Excessive rainfall experienced in recent weeks has seriously hampered the spring treatment programme at Clairwood Racecourse and parts of the track have not recovered sufficiently.

As a consequence, Gold Circle has decided to move this Sunday's meeting to Greyville to avoid having to race at Clairwood twice within 48 hours. The false rail will be positioned at 17m and the distances of 1450 and 2500m races will be changed to 1400 and 2400m respectively.

It is intended that the race meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 20, and the ever-popular Boxing Day meeting on Monday, December 26, will go ahead as scheduled and the track will then be closed for another month to allow for full recovery.

To allow for this additional break the race meetings of January 3, 8 and 22 have been moved to Scottsville.

"Our major problem area is between the 1000m and 800m marks on the bend but for the meetings of 20 and 26 December the rail will be positioned to exclude these areas," said Gold Circle's Racing Director Graeme Hawkins.

"However it is obviously of paramount importance that sufficient time is allowed for the Clairwood track to recover fully and the extra month between December 27 and January 25, 2012 will be most beneficial," he added.

In February, the race meetings scheduled for the 12th and 14th will be moved to Clairwood to allow Scottsville to have a month off in preparation for Champions Season.
