I think for a lot of people, playing the gg's is entertainment to them, not a serious profit making endeavor.

Certainly entertainment for me - very difficult to turn it into a 'serious profit making endeavour' imo - think I'm in front this year - but to know for sure I need to keep records ::o so tedious :(

I also play horses for fun am probably up this year because of a few nice wins on Igugu and Ballabriggs in particular, made some good money on Summer Cup day with a great group of guys. (tu)

Play Sport more seriously and keep records and am slightly up this year.

Unlucky Dube,Frodo and Shrek

im happy for all of those that can honestly say they are up so far.

horse racing is certainly entertaining.take yesterday at vaal for example :D

.but how entertaining can it be to the majority of punters that dont show a profit or infact are loosing hard earned money? :S

The same can be said for all forms of gambling including the lotto. So what makes people play? It's FUN, and there is always a chance of catching the big one.

yes,it can be regarded as fun or entertainment but my point is it comes for most people that participate in those activities at a cost.
you mentioned the lotto imagine how many horses,a farm, trainers etc. you can buy when winning the lotto (:P)
i shouldve played for example the same four lines with every draw since the inception of the lotto many years ago.im sure by now those sequence of numbers shouldve popped up by now.pity i didnt think of this back then :(

IMO any form of gambling should be played with money people can afford to lose. I know there are several people who look at gambling at getting out of trouble but this will work a few times, if lucky, before dropping them into a bigger hole.

Yesterday's Vaal card was a nightmare but this was seen by most here before racing began, I played a few very small each way bets which lost and left it there. I try to be very selective about what I play and who I back. If I don't fancy anything outright on a day I play a PA which give me an interest in 7 races and save my money for what I actually fancy strongly.
