What worked for me this year I think is having the disciline NOT to bet every race. To keep records of my bets and learn from them. I read somewhere that the best book on horse racing is the one that records your own results. I think there is a lot of truth in that. Last year I also made a small profit, but I saw that I loose on sand tracks and PE racing. So now I have the discipline not to bet them because I have it in black and white that my systems don't work on them. Those are now my "off" days where I can go over my results and improve where I see fit. I am not a professional, just a hobbyist and these few things make the game more fun for me and keep me in the green, even if it doesn't pay the mortgage just yet.

Down a little on horses this year, which is disappointing after profits in last two years, but made a bigger on a sports multiple to put me slightly up overall for 2011.

My profits usually come from catching pick 6's returning 20/1 or so.

What I have gathered from postings on this thread is that Sports betting is a far better option than horseracing if you want to make serious profit??

Greg I was just about to respond to Sabrein this regards.

The guys are making big bucks on Sport. Last weekend a bloke put 10k in a soccer multiple to win 160k.
He also took 18000/10000 on the Arsenal/ United double. He took this bet to cover the larger bet if...........
Yes, it might be the way to go.

I can't say really. I haven't done much sports betting, and got lucky with the multiple.
My biggest win was that pick six in 2009 which dwarfed the sports multiple return.

My profits have all come from exotics (pick 6, quartet and sports multiples). I struggle with finding any consistent value with single bets, which is not to say someone else couldn't.

The outlay is too much on single bets. .and off course the risk factor.

Hibs etc - Do you think you would make a profit in a season by backing Man U to win every match (perhaps every home match?)
