The Summer Cup is on the 26 November 2011. A Hong Kong meeting is scheduled on the 27 November 2011. There is no way that Dougie Whyte can ride Pierre Jourdan as i see it.

PJ connections are also appealing against his MR before running in the Summer Cup

I agree that a 6 point penalty is rather harsh considering the margin of victory. I however do not like the statement made by Dean Alexander saying, “We are lodging an appeal with the National Horseracing Authority against his new merit rating. His participation in the Summer Cup will depend on the outcome of that appeal.’’ This is basically holding a gun to the handicappers heads telling them if they do not drop his MR they will lose their biggest draw card on Summer Cup day.
I would love to see if Dean Alexander is a man of his word if PJ's merit rating is not dropped, will he give up a R2,000,000-00 race that PJ will probably win even with the penalty.

I don't know if that is Dean Alexander "holding a gun to the handicappers' head" or merely letting the many would-be backers of PJ know exactly what the status quo is. Knowing the Alexanders and their excellent PR, I'd say the latter. Incidentally, it's not the handicappers who would be "losing their biggest draw card." That is a Phumemela/sponsor issue, and they won't have a say in the appeal.
I'll keep my opinion of the 6 pound penalty to myself for now, just in case they rope me in to sit on the appeal.

I don't think that the appeal(apparently they felt a new rating of 115 was appropriate) will succeed to that extent.
I have him rated as 117 (minus) and I can't see any justification for anything lower than that.
To contradict myself though, my gut feel is that that race's form won't stand up,and I can't back PJ off a 117/118 in a group1 handicap!
