Track Condition on Formgrids Results Totally Wrong
13 years 9 months ago
Clairwood on the 14th September, right after race four, the meeting gets abandoned because of a waterlogged track. According to formgrids results the track condition was good on race 4??? This is totally wrong. Do any of you know where I can get an accurate account of running conditions from past meetings, a penetrometer reading for each meeting would be awesome. Please help.

Formgrids actually got it right the official going was good to soft at the time of the meeting being abandoned it was unsafe underfoot conditions on the bend that caused the meeting to be called off...
here is the official stipes report for the meeting
Stipendiary Stewards on duty: Messrs F S Parker (Chairman), N P Daniels, D M Anderson, S N Arendse, R Jeewanlall & T O Nhlapho
Veterinary Surgeons on duty: Dr R V Gatley B.V.Sc. and Dr J Dicks B.V.Sc.
Medical Officer on duty : Dr Naidoo
Starters: Messrs P D G Hepworth & S Lovell
Clerk of Scales : Messrs J van Zyl & R Jeewanlall. The Clerk of Scales examined the Medical Record Books of all the jockeys that participated at today’s meeting and was requested to report any irregularities to the Stipendiary Board.
Academy Riding Master : Mr L O'Donoghue
Duty Manager: Mr C Bawden / Mr J Dedekind
Handicapper : National Horseracing Authority Handicapping Department
Judges : Messrs C N Buckham & D Brown
Farrier : Mr S Leslie – Ensured that the plates of all the runners engaged in today’s meeting were the same as appeared in the race card and complied with the Rules.
Horse Identifier : Mrs L D Allen – Ensured that the Identity Documents of all the horses engaged for today’s meeting and their markings and scanning numbers were found to correspond with their passports.
Specimen Collectors : Mesdames L Baxter and B Baillon
Inquiry Reporter: Mrs J E Wilson
WEATHER: Overcast with drizzle PENETROMETER: 26
FALSE RAIL: 11 metres TRACK CONDITION: Good to soft
WIND : South easterly, Headwind
General Information Prior to Race Meeting :
Assistant Trainer S Ferrie stood in for Trainer D Drier at today's meeting.
Assistant Trainer I van Wyk stood in for Trainer C Erasmus at today's meeting
Rain fell prior to the start of the 1st Race which changed the penetrometer reading from 21 to 26 and as a result a track inspection was held. Following the track inspection it was decided to commence with the race meeting and the scheduled time off for the 1st Race was rescheduled.
Following the running of the 4th Race a protest was lodged by the riders against the continuation of the race meeting due to unsafe underfoot conditions on the bend. The panel was formed in terms of the Rules and a track inspection was held. The panel were unanimous that it was unsafe to continue the race meeting and therefore abandoned the remainder of the race meeting.

I love formgrids, but I think they can improve on this. Perhaps by putting in the penetrometer reading in their results.

Thanks for "I love formgrids", as you know it’s a free service and we are trying to keep it a free service, at the end of the day as we all know money makes a difference,, when i launched Formgrids 6 or 7 years ago to try help uplift a sagging industry i foolishly thought that Phumelela, RA, Racing Trust etc would recognise the value in the system and help us to help them,,, however David Attenborough said that whenever he mentioned aiding Formgrids in Phumelela meetings he was told that "we are not going to make Safi rich",,,,, this attitude seems to still be around and it’s me funding the entire project,,, adverts are hard to sell and very few industry members support us financially although they use the system,,, so what I’m saying is we do the best we can with what we have and know that we can improve but it would be ANOTHER salary which i cannot afford

Mister A, if i may ask why is formgrids free of charge? almost all the race cards are not free and formgrids in my opinion is miles ahead of many race cards available not just in south africa but world wide...personally i'd be lost without formgrids and therefore i would have no problem paying a subscription. i used to subscribe to Racing post for R112pm and it is still not as good as formgrids in my opinion.
