why dont we all stop talking shit and get behind the team,,,whether you prefer bizzy to john...morne to butch...
here is a story for you all...this happended in 2007
waylon murray had a brilliant S14 with the sharks....white called him up for the reduced tri-nations...he started in the 2 away legs of the tournament...the wc squad was selected and the players informed...murray included as he covered centre and wing...the day of the announcement murray was replaced by ndungane...white refused but was overided by the president...
moral of the story...even at this late hour the squad can change...

It really doesn't matter who is appointed coach - the poor sod is always abused or plotted against.
In the South African context an English speaking, Cape based coach will totally lack credibility with our northern neighbours. Vice versa an Afrikaans speaking, Pretoria based coach.
Although ABC does not date back that far all of Mallett, Straeuli, White, de Villiers etc., have had both their supporters and vituperative detractors.
However - if we would just accept that rugby is a sport then De Villiers has certainly provided us with a succession of lighter moments in stark contrast to the usual politically correct 'All credit to........' crap that monotonously spews from the mouths of most other coaches.
Whichever way we look at it one cannot deny that it is probably the colour ( and moustache! ) of our coach that gets up the noses ( pun intended! ) of many 'traditional' South Africans more than anything else. Inarticulate he may be but does that not apply to the majority of the individuals who play, manage and administer the sport? Or most professional sportsmen for that matter.
Interestingly a number of comments made by DeVilliers for which he was pilloried at the time have since been proven to be true. For example - he described Sonny Bill Williams as a 'one trick pony'. I note even the NZ fans are starting to use this term in describing SBW. Equally he has made comments which have been discredited. But when you read many of his statements in context you get the feeling that this is an individual thinking in Afrikaans but speaking in English. And often attempting to tell it as he sees it. Since when is having a opinion been such a bad thing?
Should his side miraculously pull off the World Cup his track record will differ little from his predecessor. Fans forget quickly about the lynch mob that stalked White in the latter two years of his tenure.
Rugby World Cup coaches, with one exception, will all share one common experience in the next few months - FAILURE. Should NZ ultimately lift the cup they will have been managed by a man with more failures than successes to his credit. It's the nature of the game.
Although coaches do apply for their posts they do not select themselves. Much the same as players whom some fans do not believe merit their places.
Whichever way it pans out I am more interested in predicting outcomes for my own personal financial gain. If poor coaching and player selection aids me with that process I have no need to complain.
