Scotia's last word on July.
13 years 11 months ago
Good morning all and I am doing one last post on the July (ok did throw a few in during the week), hope you enjoyed the photos and all the positive vibes we experienced.
Just wanted to add a few comments to my email circulation.
The one negative and potentially positive thought I came away with was that MDK hit the nail on the head when he said not only could the local horseracing industry benefit from an export drive but also SA as a nation if we could get our quarantine act together, I would just like to add my voice to his call for some pro-active action on this long outstanding issue for the good of SA.
lets get our act together
My last word on the July will be “IGUGU” I don’t think we have had as many posts on one horse? It started with a post “will Igugu win or not” sounds simple enough but became huge, then I thought when it won we would just get a few well done Igugu posts? this was not to be, we then started a new series of posts, e.g is she a champ? how good is Ebony Flyer? you name it, we have it on the site.
I think that maybe one day the name IGUGU will drop off our first page, but from a forum perspective long may the discussions continue.
I hope we can follow her international career with pride and I am still one of the few that would ask, why not grab the Gold Cup on the way to the airport? if that was a possibility I would be making a plan to get back to Greyville and I am sure a massive crowd would follow.
" Is she a true champ? the debate continues"
I remember when I was a young lad (just after they banned chariot racing the first time) we had a talking horse named “Mr Ed” and if we have a talking horse in SA or certainly on the forum it has to be Igugu.
I have tried to understand the massive amount of posts on this one horse and I use the following 2 quotes “many bruised egos after the July” or " a merit figure vs emotional feeling for a champ".
Mr Ed
Not to mention the “horse with no name” again, but thanks to her Mrs S and myself find ourselves in the position that we can manage another trip to KZN to watch Miss Diana run on Sunday and we hope for a good first run out the maidens.
The Eclipse was a cracker although I went for the wrong horse, was glad to see the race replay was posted on the site.
a great race and finish to the Eclipse
As far as future races what do we have in store?
Pierre Jourdan for the QE11 Cup in Hong Kong? River Jetez runs in the Falmouth on Friday at around 8/1 could be worth an ew. on the Sat. the July Cup, without Rocket Man where Delegator tops the boards at 3/1 and would say that Star Witness the Aussie star at 7/1 could be the best bet and could stamp the form of Black Caviar.
The 23rd we have the King George and QE Stakes where St Nicholas 18/10, Rewilding 5/2 (after a good win against See You Think) and possibly Worforce 8/1 in the line up.
27th the big one is still on : Canford Cliffs 11/10 vs Frankel 12/10 in the Sussex Stakes
As far as the ARC (greatest race on the planet) we have Pour Moi 9/2. Workforce to double up at 11/2, So You Think 8/1 and a little early wager on St Nicholas Abbey might be worth a stab at 12/1.
Well done to the competition winners and thanks again to WSB and INTERBET.
The winner of the "best tipster" was Headsupheadsdown and for your info SHE happens to be a LADY!
I remember when that lass threw herself in front of the Derby field that we had trouble brewing, next they will be playing a round of GOLF (Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden)...............lol
We have plenty posts on the site and trying to keep away from Igugu, here are a few:
1) Marcus vs Delpech.
2) Big City Life (shame on the Sunday Tribune).
3) What's wrong with KZN presenters for the big days?
Mrs S got a call from the kids to say she was on the tv the other night! Not on Tellytrack but on Top Billing showing her hat, so if you want to get ahead, get a hat.
We have also had a few posts on breeding and the news is full of people playing around but just be careful
"safe sex the way to go"
Have a great weekend and if you are at Scottsville come and say hello
Good punting and may your God be with you

Hi Dave
Just a question. How can we get the Horse racing world to help with a drive to fix the "QUARANTINE" problem as it is also for the other side of the horse sport and also for all animals.
They keep shouting "Olympics" for SA, but if we do not fix this problem then the Equestrian side will be held in an other country and once again SA will not be able to compete.
We need to get on to all the TV News channels and we need to get every horse owner breeder to stand as one.

From Peter Gibson- SEE ATTACHED FILE
As an organization we have taken on the responsibility of driving the process in conjunction with Veterinary Services SA via Import Export Working Group – follow this link for more info: www.racingsouthafrica.co.za/view_page.aspx?ID=134
The following is a brief history of the delivery of South African horses to the world:
· In support of the WWar efforts, SA supplied over 350 000 horses to various parts of the world by boat
· In 1958, outbreak of AHS in Middle East, world deems Africa to be infected with AHS and all exports cease
· In 1960’s USA opens vector-protected facility in New York which allowed horses to be quarantined for 60 days post arrival
· In 1995, the SA Horse Import & Export Council was established to drive negotiations with EU to establish export protocol based on OIE (World Organisation for Animal Health) AHS Code
· In January 1997 the EU ratified the South African export protocol which permitted the import of horses from South Africa's AHS Controlled Area (part of which is the AHS Free Zone) in the Western Cape.
· In April 1997, the HK Government adopted the protocol which allowed London News direct entry to HK to compete in the Gr.2 QEII Stakes and win.
· In 1999, an outbreak of AHS occurred in Stellenbosch (in the AHS Controlled Area). This automatically led to a two year suspension of imports from South Africa by the EU and other trading partners including HK.
· In 2001, the EU and other trading partners including HK lifted the suspension and direct imports to HK resumed.
· In 2003, the UAE adopted the protocol which allowed direct exports from Cape Town to Dubai. 100 horses (3 shipments) were exported on this basis.
· In February 2004, the second outbreak of AHS occurred in Stellenbosch which resulted in another two year suspension.
· In April 2006, an international workshop was hosted by Racing SA which included representatives from EU, HK and UAE. Both UAE and HK suggested the development of a new diagnostic test
would assist with future protocols.
· In October 2006, the EU lifted the suspension and direct imports to the EU resumed. However, in contrast to the decision by the HK Government to accept direct imports in 1997 and 2001, and the UAE in 2003, this time they insisted on South African horses spending an additional 30 days in Europe pre-entry to HK and UAE respectively. At the time, it was suggested that there was too much risk to the Olympic Games (which South Africa accepted) and the DIRC was too valuable.
· May 2010, OIE amends AHS Code to reduce period of loss of freedom from 2 years to 1 year
· February 2011, the Mamre outbreak led to the suspension of exports to the EU
· 3 May, last case of AHS in Mamre reported
· May 2011, OIE rejects latest round of proposed changes to AHS Code which would have introduced fundamental improvements. Will be ratified in 2012
· 23 June, State Vet declares Mamre outbreak over
Sport Horse involvement is welcomed especially in respect of communicating regulations, disease notifications to members and to contribute financially to research initiatives to solve AHS issues. We are represented by SANEF, Warm Blood Society, Endurance and others on various bodies were reside over and fund like SA Equine Trade Council, AHS Trust, Equine Research Centre etc.

PHOTOCOPIERS: These are female, because once turned off...it takes a while to warm them up again.
They are an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed...but can also wreak havoc if you push the wrong Buttons.
TYRES: Tyres are male, because they go bald easily and are often over inflated
HOT AIR BALLOONS: Also a male object... because to get them to go anywhere.....you have to light a fire under their arse.
SPONGES: These are female...because they are soft......squeezable and retain water.
WEB PAGES:
Female...because they're constantly being looked at and frequently getting hit on.
TRAINS: Definitely male... because they always use the same old lines for picking up people.
EGG TIMERS: Egg timers are female because....over time...all the weight shifts to the bottom.
HAMMERS: Male.... because in the last 5000 years.....they've hardly changed at all...and are occasionally handy to have around.
THE REMOTE CONTROL: Female. Ha! You probably thought it would be male..but consider this: It easily gives a man pleasure, he'd be lost without it...and while he doesn't always know which buttons to push...he just keeps trying
