And Duncan's Wealthy and Wise in only her 4th run runs 3.7 lengths off the winner. Watch this one in a minor feature

watch the first 10 horses past the post in the future considering there was only 3 lengths covering this field of top class 3yos...in my opinion the best crop iv ever seen

Pirates
What is your take on Igugu.
How serious a contender is she for the July.

hard to assess as she has only run against her own age group and sex...

Pirates, are you being serious? You really rate the current 3 year old colts?

My take on it is that I find it highly unlikely to have 10 superstars in any given generation. The only thing in their favor is that most of the top older horses are out of the country or retired.

I believe that Igugu is top class will murder any of the 3 year old colts.

imo very moderate bunch of 3 yr olds.wealt & wise could not beat golden dane in its last run.kavanagh was beaten by past master in the drill hall.in open company they battle.if igugu fluffs her lines, look to the 4yr olds viz past master, bravura,pj,capt wild etc imo

Just because the 3yo colts are levelly matched doesn't necessarily make them moderate. There isn't one that stands out above the others, agreed, but I've made this mistake before in the July and lived to regret it. However, while accepting that Wealthy And Wise is an improving sort who probably improved lengths going 2000m for the first time, his proximity at the finish is one aspect of the Daily News form that concerns me somewhat.

There could however be a lot more to come from The Apache, whio didn't have the greatest prep after going into quarantine and then having to come out again when exports were suspended. This is the Sun Classique scenario from a few years ago all over again, and she continued to improve through that KZN season.

Bravura would be my pick of the 4yos at the moment, but we will all be wiser after next week. One forgotten horse that I would not completely write off is Lion In Winter, who came from just about last to finish on top of the placed horses in the Met. That race was not run ro suit horses lagging so far behind and it was a terrific effort in the circumstances. He also runs again soon and we will hopefully be a lot wiser by this time next week. What we still won't know until it's too late is how Igugu shapes against the colts, whether they be 3yos or older. She keeps on smashing the same sort of opposition, although at least Emerald Cove is a Gr 1 winner so there was some depth to the Woolavington field. She's had a busy seaon, often racing in testing conditions at Turffontein, and I have a slight worry that the July may be one race too many (even allowing for the genius of her trainer).

last year 3 yr olds bold silv (grey 1900)orbison (champ cup) all won in open company.these were graded races.imo past master, bravura,pj on aline through irishflame all come from the same formline.remember the first 5 in the july were all from this crop.run for it carried 52kg in the met,in the july he willcarry apprx 56kg .imo if he could not win the d/n ,he has no chance in the july. barring igugu being special, imo a 4 yr old willwin the july,

if bravura comes back to his derby win he will give this july field a hiding...the 3yo middle dist horses last year were absolute class including bravura piere jordaan past master bold silvano irish flame orbison ancestral fore ...i dont see mdk going out this year and buying any of the current crop of 3yos compared to last year when he got bold silvano irish flame and ancestral fore...due to as saksy says the cream going overseas a 3yo might win hopefully for me perana is the one but they are a very average crop ...3 lengths covering 10 horses says it all and wealthy and wise will cop a nice penalty for his run along with a few others...igugu is the best overall 3yo but we dont know how good until she meets older horses...my july shortlist is bravura to give them a hiding super storm 2nd past master 3rd igugu 4th and perana 5th...i hope the people who choose the final field take into consideration the c division nature of the greyville 1900 and dont put to many runners in from that race...i have no doubt that the final field is going to leave many people upset considering a blanket can be thrown over about 10 3yos

Run For It got to within 2 lengths of the winner in the Met, so the 3yos can't be complete rubbish.
