Snaafy lives up to billing in Jebel Ali Mile
Racing Post
Report: UAE, Friday
Jebel Ali: Jebel Ali Mile (Listed) 1m, dirt, 4yo+
SNAAFY (Musabah Al Muhairi/Richard Hills) had little trouble living up to pre-race billing as the highest-rated horse ever to run at Jebel Ali with a comfortable victory in this Listed race, rearranged after last week's sandstorm postponement.
Never far off the pace, Snaafy was eased to the front well over a furlong out by Richard Hills and the pair settled matters in a few strides, bounding clear of the remainder led home by stable companion Atlantic Brave.
A jubilant Musabah Al Muhairi led both horses in, with Pat Dobbs sporting the trainer's own colours on Atlantic Brave.
Hills said: "We knew we had a leading chance - his official rating of 115 shows he is on the cusp of Group 1-class and he has contested a Dubai World Cup and a Dubai Duty Free. He had winning form at Jebel Ali which is always a big thing and I was never worried.
"He quickened nicely and rely does love dirtsurfaces as he showed at Nad Al Sheba. It is back to the carnival now and most likely the turf as he does not show the same zest on the Tapeta but did win on grass last year."
Snaafy completed a double for the jockey who won the opening 6f maiden on Serhaal for UAE champion trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe.
Also in double form were ‘home trainer' Dhruba Selvaratnam, based at Jebel Ali, and Kieren Fallon, standing in for William Buick, expected back next week.
Course specialist Mannjal bounced back to winning ways in the concluding 6f handicap, an hour after Dahteer won a 7f handicap. The two horses have chalked up 13 course victories between them, with Mannjal responsible for eight.
Fallon said: "Course form is always important here and these two certainly have plenty of it. Dahteer was a bit unlucky last time and it was niceto see Mannjal return to form."
Lord Ego (Doug Watson/Pat Dobbs) earned a deserved victory after a string of placed efforts in a second 7f handicap, while Submariner (Abdulla bin Huzaim/Carlos Sandoval) won the 1m1f handicap.
