WHO SAID YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW THE SHEEP?????
14 years 4 months ago
My partners and I were recently told by our trainer that one of our horses, which had shown potential as a baby, was not showing form and it may be a good time to call it a day. At the time, I suspected that the horse was being run over distances much too short as in one of its previous races over 2700 metres, the horse was just pipped into 4th place against some top stayers. However, the trainer assured us that that the horse’s best times and showings were in the 1600-2000 meter races. Nonetheless, we instructed the trainer to run the horse over 2400 for the next 3 months where after we would take a decision. Following this, much to our disappointment, the horse was scratched twice as according to the trainer, it appeared to be ''SCRATCHY''. On the horse’s first actual run over 2400, it hammered the field by 3½ lengths going away. Needless to say, since that victory we have moved the horse to another well-known trainer.

owners who interfere with trainers might as well take out their own license as they have chosen the trainer just like they choose any other professional such as a lawyer docter or dentist...i dont think you would tell them how to do their job...move the horse change doctors but dont tell someone how to do their job...owners that move horses continually usually have very little success in the game whereas owners that remain loyal in good and bad times reap the rewards for their loyalty..

I disagree. Sure let the trainer do their job without interfering at every turn - but if you feel strongly about something (like Zoro did), you have to speak up.
You are paying a lot of attention to your horses form - whereas the trainers attention is split between all the horses in the yard. He can keep the horses in tip-top shape, but he might not always be able to plot the best course alone.

Pirates MdK and I have been good friends for many many years..the comparison is not fair..nb I and Derrik David drove all the way to Summerhill so he could ride 20 horses and pick a couple for me I bought this particular horse and I was not an owner of the horse when it won as the trainer felt that it was time to make a call on the horse after a few very disappointing runs. How would you feel if the next time it came out and shit in my good mate?

oscar i have no problem if owners want to move horses the problem i have is when an owner starts telling the trainer how to train where to run what jockey to use etc..i dont think i have seen a horse move within one province unless it has been sold to new owners after it has won by 4 lengths...the simple fact that it performed so well suggests that the horse is happy not saying it wont be happy in its new yard but why take the risk of new training methods different feed etc....move them when they are not performing and they are not happy in their current surroundings...anyway thats my opinion for what its worth
