Pocket, drawn 2, Ebony drawn 13.........The filly will have to be close to superman to win imo.

Still love her though ;)

Wow, it is going to be a hum-dinger !!
Interesting booking of Striker on Imperious Star, she is way better than her previous effort imo.....and she will love the galloping summer track at Kenilworth. If she is allowed to dictate then could be nice value! CAN'T WAIT for these races.

Flirtation is race over anything over 2/1 is value !

as for the queens plate , what a race it is .
This is one of the better fields i have seen assemble for this race in many a year and to think a host of runners have left sa for international campaigns .

We got pe raiders we got a 3 yo filly , we got a mare , we got some decent 4yo's we got the champ pocket power and finally we got Casey cool who's gonna set up the race nicely for Past master .

My early fancies are Past master and mother Russia to fight this out with American man maybe running 4th after a decent win on sunday . I'm still looking for what will run 3rd!

What are your thoughts guys ?

At first glance, I think Mother Russia is the right one (I wonder what price she will be for the QP/Met double?) - followed by Pocket Power, Tales of Bravery ( better than his last run?), Past Master (won well last time, but against sprinters who can not really be classified as top class) and Ebony Flyer (still to prove herself against the older horses) in no particular order - the PE horses should be 150/1 imo

the race looks like it will be a very tactical affair with bass having a chance of keeping ebony wide out or having to drop out if she doesnt manage to fly out the gates and overcome her draw early...in felix she has the right kind of jockey to do this...a 2 draw might not be the best draw in pocket powers interest considering he takes time to unwind and he might be caught in a pocket on the rail..mother russia will have the run of the race from her draw and i tip her to win from a flying past master....i get the feeling that there are going to be plenty hard luck storys after this race ..the pe horses will only get in the way and imo make a mockery of being in this prestigious race...time will tell

Love Is In The Air, Flirtation and Imperious Star. I can't see anything else winning the Paddock Stakes at first glance.

Queen's Plate - well of course I'd love Pocket Power to win it for a fifth time, but Mother Russia drawn 1 on a course that she also loves could take some beating. There were some excuses for Tales Of Bravery (he was found to be suffering from some ailment or other after the race) and he could be one to get involved with the "Big Four" of Mother Russia, Pocket Power,

There's also the Listed Politician Stakes for 3yos over 1800m on the card. Solo Traveller runs here, with Il Saggiatore his one possible danger over this longer distance if he doesn't blow the start like he did in the Guineas.

Roll on the 8th of January!X(

Media release

Trainer Mike Bass has a fine chance of landing a Grade 1 double on Saturday, 8 January 2011, at Kenilworth Racecourse when Love Is In The Air lines up for the Grade 1 TBA Paddock Stakes to be run over 1800 m.

Bass has five runners entered for the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, including four-time Queen’s Plate winner Pocket Power, and he is not short of ammunition here either with three runners engaged in the 14-horse field.

Grade 1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes winner Love Is In The Air was recently touched off by A Daughter’s Legacy in the Victress Stakes but meets her rival on better terms here.

Also entered is the recent Sansui Summer Cup winner Flirtation from the Mike de Kock yard while Riaan van Reenen will saddle Victress Stakes (Gr 3) winner A Daughter’s Legacy. The daughter of Windrush boasts a record of five wins from her last six outings including the Ladies Mile (L) and the Grade 3 Final Fling Stakes.

Other notable acceptors are Grade 1 Woolavington 2000 winner and Garden Province Stakes (Gr 1) runner-up Imperious Star, Vodacom Durban July runner-up Zirconium and the smart three-year-old Emerald Cove who has not been disgraced playing second fiddle to awesome stable companion Ebony Flyer in both the Grade 1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas and the Odessa Stud Fillies Championship (Gr 2).
