Kenilworth Racemeeting, 27 October - Apology
14 years 7 months agoGold Circle regrets and apologises for any embarrassment or inconvenience caused to the affected parties for the incorrect result being posted on course in the second race at Kenilworth on Wednesday, October 27.
At the finish of the race there was very little separating the Piet Steyn-trained One And Only and the Dean Kannemeyer-trained Spanish Affair.
It appears that an employee posted the result of the very close finish on the indicator board, based on the commentator's call and the television image, without waiting for the result to be officially announced by the judges. As a result the connections of the second placed horse were then interviewed on Tellytrack as the winning connections.
Statements have been taken from the officials concerned and an enquiry is to be held into the incident.

Thanks Hibs,
Racing is supposed to be professional and we have errors like this made far too often. They load horses the wrong way round, post results before getting the official call, have inconsistancies with false starts, plated races with a runner winning a few days prior with no penalty, and all of this is in the past month or so. All that ever seems to happen is the guilty party/ies get wrapped on the nuckles.
This is a multi billion Rand industry run like a joke.

When Eruption won recently the DVD of the race had a frontispiece where tipex had been applied to cover over the name of the second horse and Eruption's name written over the top. I kid you not.
