Afternoon ,
Dave Scott asked us to answer a few questions on topics current on your website.
1) Arlington: The RA board in PE, with the RA chairman’s assistance, have arranged for a committee to be formed with the stakeholders in the area to look into the viability of the proposed closure of Arlington. The project will only go ahead if the majority of stakeholders in the area agree to it. The committee will consider issues to be formalised in a SLA with Phumelela.
The reason Arlington was chosen as the course to be closed is because it cannot accommodate a second track. The view is to put in a second track at Fairview, most likely a polytrack due to the moderate climate, and due to the lack of water available in the area.
2) Randjesfontein Family day: The reason the day has not been continued is due to the cost involved.
3) Consolidated National Structure: This has been and continues to be extensively discussed at the highest levels between the various role players. The process is slow and complicated. The RA continues to support the idea of a national operator and is kept up to date as to the progress thereof.
4) Vet Fees: The new RA website will have the attached document available.
5) Betting: Negotiations have been taking place with the gambling board and bookmakers for the past 7 months. In Nov 2010, a presentation by industry bodies to the gambling board will take place regarding the current state of the industry and the impact of betting, through its various channels, on horseracing.
6) Maiden races: The RA has been in talks with Phumelela, the result of which is that the 2 maiden races this coming Saturday, 23 Oct, have been split. The chairman will be sitting with the Phumelela programming team to arrange for further races to be split. An invitation has been extended to Mr Heinz Kruger to sit with the chairman and the Phumelela programming team to discuss the issues he has raised.
Some of the other issues require further investigation, I will give you feedback on them once I have the info.
Regards
The Racing Association

Just my opinion but surely this Family day was a success in the past and was a continuous opportunity to promote racing, it had more merit than the international jockeys day which must cost considerably more money??

Hear Hear Greg . The Family day is what introduces people to racing . I cannot believe that a budget cannot be allocated to this day .

@RA :
What bothers me is:
Is this release only for selected people or the entire industry (setting the pattern for divide and rule)?
For instance, there are numerous owners, trainers and punters out there who have similar (and even more) pointed questions, who do not come onto this (or any other) forum.
Or, do they not matter, being outside the circle?

To Clan Members:
The reason I bring up this is:
Some time back, we had a lady Margaret who undertook to attend to all problesm (depicting herself as a sort of PA to the CEO).
I brought to her attention that MNet has an EasyView channel for middle/lower income and pensioners on which TellyTrack is not available. She undertook to go into this, copied me and email to someone (as if I was an irritant who had to be dispensed with), and nobody has ever come back to me to date.
AND, there is still no Tellytrack on Easyview!
So, cut out all this playing up to certain individuals/groupings/interests; RESPECT ALL YOUR CLIENTS EQUALLY or tell us to FO!

Good work Dave...and hats off to the RA for actually breaking the silence...
Referring to point 6 and if the majority [if not all] of ABC subscribers grant this, as this is a good gesture, i would surely like to attend such a meeting on behalf of ABC supported and accompanied by a senior member of ABC,if permitted by the RA as this is a serious issue in my regard and a platform to start serious negotiations.
I would surely attend the meeting whatever the decision on above mentioned if they can supply a date and time.

Agreed, but this is at least a small step - we need a giant leap - remember Rome was not built in day (and all those other cliche's)
