the betting for todays racing has been out since 1pm yesterday...why wasnt it up on sportingbet yesterday/

Well, I have been using them as I love my lurkers... and there limits are way way higher than the locals.

Mike just jumped the gun imo,the more bookies should mean they all become more competitve,all you need now is more local racing imo!

At least shezi knows that wos & mbet are coupled - but I can show you screenshots of go - "sorry, your stake limit on this event is ZAR16.01"!!!!!!!!.

Anybody ever asked Betfair if it is "illegal" to bet with them?

Hi Mike

You are a new Bookmaker in South Africa, and its hard to attract new business, most of the local punter in South Africa have there own bookmaker that they been punting with for years and are more like Friends than bookies, Punters like a personal touch they like phoning in and speaking to the same Bookmaker/manager or clerk,they like going into the tattersalls and have a chat every now and again. Pro punters use Interbet or betfair for better prices that local bookmakers cant compete with they don't care who takes there bet as long as they got the best price.
You don't offer a personal touch and you don't offer the best prices.

On another note you are an English company so why would the locals want to bet with you knowing all your profits will leave the country?? why dont you show that you here for the south African punter and not just for there money.

Maybe sponsor a race meeting or family day, maybe get involved with a grooms school or help a battling trainer or jockey out with some sponsorship, show that you care.

Betfair clearly states on their site that all players must be fully versed with the laws of their country and they will not be held liable if players transgress them. It is not beyond the realms of possibility (although highly unlikely) that Betfair releases the IP addresses and names of all South African logons if our Government request, citing the law that states both parties (ie- punter and gambling site) are liable. I think if it came settlement time, they would protect themselves first.

The ruling is there. I love Betfair - I think it is the greatest gambling innovation of all time. I WISH IT WAS LEGAL. But, it's not.You can try bend it, twist it, shape it any way you want to - but the legal conclusion will be the same. Whether authorities enforce it or not is another matter. Personally I think they will look to make a few examples only and hope that is enough.
So for the sake of my family and sanity, I ceased to play there. We adapt, thats the best trait of human beings.
