Betfair, Iforex and all the overseas Emarket websites.
Strange that Betfair is singled out.
Many RSA citizens trade on the forex sites.
Much the same in principal as betfair.
An event is priced up for a duration - be it a currency, a football game or horse race.
On all these emarkets a trader (RSA citizen) can lay or back the event.
Whether I say the Rand is going up (win) against US dollar (next 1 hour), or horse 1 is going to win in the next 60 seconds, it still stays an event.
If its about forex leaving the country - amazon.com must be blocked too?
Further more the constitutional laws specify that a citizen cannot be prevented from making a living (income) in RSA.
Hence my opinion - the gambling laws are in a clash with the constitutional laws.
The banks all trade on these forex emarkets, many forex companies have been active in RSA since 1998 when the forex laws were relaxed.
These forex companies were formed by bank employees that resigned in 1998.
Standard bank, ABSA, Nedbank will open you a bank account in the UK.
Current RSA laws allow one to transfer R4,000,000 to these accounts.
Using the Betfair site, one can transfer funds from one of these accounts to and fro your betfair account.
Fail to see what is illegal about this.
ABSA is owned by Barclays UK.
Nedbank - HSBC was going to buy them?
There is no court in RSA that will hear a case against a RSA citizen that has opened a UK bank account via his local RSA bank, trading on Betfair from the UK bank account?
Under which law will they prosecute you?
SARS cannot do anything either.
RSA signed a double tax treaty with the UK.
Betfair deduct tax (0% currently - but could change before the Olympic games in 2012), hence RSA SARS cannot levy any tax as you have paid your tax.
The Eagles (former scorpions) cannot confiscate your winnings as they will be in contradiction with the constitutional law.
Guess it is only rumours being spread by the gambling board and SARS employees that are not aware of the various tax treaty's, constitutional laws?
Send this to the gambling board and SARS - force them on a statement - Betfair will be declared a legal site to trade for RSA citizens.

Mike
I had a look at your Site , I had to wait till 10 min before the off of the local race before you priced up (great customer service), Hollywood ,Fories and Kruger bets were all priced up 25 min before the off. Your prices were not great in comparison to the local bookmakers, they were all better than you. I use Betfair so I wont be customer number 10 001.
Good luck with your business

@Shezi:
Where are you licensed and based?
Which bookies did you work for?
Why is your web address giving the impression of fobbing off www.sportingbet.com ? Are you linked with them also?
If not, you trading off their name?
I would be very wary in dealing with any firm that requests my banking details (and even money), but, does not disclose its physical address and other pertinent details, such as who you are, traceable bona fides, etc.

Good man young Shezi..............How is young Friedman settling in. He's a good boy. Look after him !
Umlilo, I can assure you that Sportingbet are licenced in the Western Cape and are one of the biggest firms in the world. I don't bet with them. I can only bet on credit ? Got no cash

@Harris:
Don't dispute that. I subsequently noticed that sb is licensed in the WC.
However, if you Google Sportingbet, you get sb.com and za.sb.co.za and sb.co.za
All the sb's end with .com except the SAfrican one.
Against the background of off-shore companies, 419 scams, you've won the Lotto, send us your banking details, etc ......CAUTION IS THE PASSWORD!
Besides, Shezi invited questions/concerns, and I have put them forward.
Is Sportingbet SA riding on the back of sportingbet, or, is it part of the same group?

I have been using them and they are good. One thing that has changed, and it cost me money yesterday is that you cannot place multiples early as in the past. yesterday morning gregbucks posted his treble for the day... i had a few pennies in my Sportingbet account so decided to play Gregs selections... but it would not bring up a 'multiple' bet... only individual bets... suffice to say all three won. Granted I woulda only put R32.00... but the treble was 35/1 or so... 1k for punting today would have been good.
