Starts today from Doncaster, been plenty of rain this week in the UK so caution with your bets...

Fancies today:

Doncaster

Nathaniel looks ready to win for William Buick
Wootton Bassett can make it 4 in a row for Hanagan
Rumoush to win the main race

Best bets for the day should be Dux Scholar at Bath and Rare Term at Epsom for a wee double

good punting!

Trainer comments for Saturdays big race..

Simon Crisford - Rewilding and Corsica: "He's (Rewilding) done very well since York and Mahmood (Al Zarooni) is extremely happy with him. He's a very straightforward colt, he doesn't carry a lot of condition and he's got a fantastic Leger profile. He was third in the Derby and won the Voltigeur like a very classy colt. To win a Ladbrokes St Leger it's all about class in my view. We've been lucky enough to win it five times and you have to be good. It's all about class and he has it.

"I watched him work on Saturday morning, he did a little breeze on his own, he's very athletic and very fit, he doesn't take any training and is a little bit like a filly in a round about way. He comes from a fantastic family, a mile-and-six will be great but he has the speed to win over a mile-and-a-quarter. Next year we'll be campaigning him over shorter distances.

"In the Derby he produced a huge run. He didn't like the track and it was the fastest ground he's ever raced on in his life and he only got going in the last two furlongs. That was a big run to be third, he probably should have been second but the winner was outstanding. Just looking at him after that and thinking about the big picture we gave him a holiday.

"Sheikh Mohammed was very keen to focus all his attentions on the Ladbrokes St Leger and then we'll see what happens after that. We could consider the Arc but he's got to go and win on Saturday and there's some fabulous horses in there. It's not going to be a walk-over and he's going to have to be every bit as good as he was at York to win it.

"Corsica will be pacemaking for Rewilding. He's running on his own merits and is a natural front-runner with every right to be in the race and is capable of running well but his primary function is as pacemaker for Rewilding."

John Gosden - Arctic Cosmos: "Rewilding brings the Derby form into the race and is consequently favourite as he ran the best trial. He also produced a fantastic win in the Voltigeur, which one of my previous winners Lucarno also did. Rewilding sets the gold standard for a correct profile for the Leger.

"However like Lucarno, and Conduit, my fellow was second in the King Edward VII, and we've had this race in mind for him since then. He came down from the all-weather and is a giant of a horse who is in good form and will appreciate the rain. He's not a horse I've rushed at all and the end of this year and next season are going to be very important to him.

"I chose to run him in the Gordon because they'd watered well and I knew I'd get the ground. Unfortunately he was very uncomfortable coming down the hill and got in a right muddle. He finished very strongly along with Dandino and I loved the last furlong, having not particularly enjoyed the rest of the race."

Aidan O'Brien - Midas Touch and Joshua Tree
: "I've four entered but at the moment the plan is that Joshua Tree and Midas Touch will run at Doncaster. Flying Cross is a possible runner in the Irish Leger at this stage.

"Midas Touch is very consistent and ran a lovely race the last day at York and a great race in the Irish Derby and is a horse we think is still on the upgrade. He stayed very well at the Curragh and York. We take Rewilding on again and we gave our horse a break after the Irish Derby and used the Voltigeur as a prep for the Leger. He was giving Rewilding three pounds and we were very happy with his run. They went a good gallop and he was up there with the pace the whole way.

"We are very happy with Joshua Tree and were delighted to get the run into him in the Voltigeur. We just got held-up in the spring and couldn't get a run into and he was just ready to start back when he went to York. Jamie (Spencer) let him take his time early on and he came home very well. We were delighted with his run and would look forward to seeing him the next day after that."

Ed Dunlop - Snow Fairy: "Her participation depends on the weather but if it's not too bad she will definitely run. She's been a complete surprise package this season, at the end of her two-year-old career I had no idea where to go with her, she was in none of the races she's gone on to win.

"She's in the Vermeille and will stay in that but she's won two Oaks before being beaten by a better filly at York. She'll have one or maybe two more runs before being put away for next season.

"I'm looking forward to the Ladbrokes St Leger, I've never had a runner in the race before. The Godolphin horse will be very hard to beat and Mr Crisford is pretty bullish but it will be great fun and there's no pressure on her. I hope she runs well and if she doesn't stay she won't be bullied to run on to have a very hard race, she doesn't deserve it.

"As for jockeys I hope Ryan Moore will be free to ride but if it's not him it will be Richard Hughes or Eddie Ahern."

James Given - Dandino: "He was a very backward horse mentally and took a long time to get the hang of it. Even at Royal Ascot Paul Mulrennan felt he was a little bit novicey and green in the race and there was more to come. He's got the hang of it now though.

"I was disappointed leaving the track after he'd finished second in the Gordon Stakes but looking back he just didn't come down the hill very well. When he hit the flat ground he motored very strongly and in a few more strides it could have been a different result.

"I think he can win the Ladbrokes St Leger and we go there with a very good chance. Rewilding is the one we all have to beat and he was very impressive at York but we're there to give him a fight."

Mark Tompkins - Ted Spread: "In the winter time I told the boys that own him that if he was going to be a nice horse, the Ladbrokes St Leger would be the main race for him.

"I'm pleased the rain is forecast for Doncaster and if it arrives it will suit my horse. He's a big, tall horse and was always going to be a better horse at the end of the year and then next season. We won a Derby trial and you are nearly forced to go to Epsom after that. We ran him and he didn't handle the fast ground or the course.

"I was delighted with his run at York and if it rains I think we've a chance of getting into the frame in the Leger. Darryll Holland rides and is very happy with the horse.

"I won the race with Bob's Return but he was a horse with a lot more pace than Ted Spread. Both like soft ground but they are two very different horses. I'm hopeful ahead of the weekend.

Jeremy Noseda - Thelogy:
"He'll love the trip and a little bit of cut in the ground will suit too. The stiffer the test of stamina the better chance we'll have. I'm delighted with him, his last two pieces of work have been very good and I feel he's approaching the race in top shape.

"I won a Leger with Sixties Icon but that year we went there with a favourite's chance. This time were one of the outsiders but I'm sure the horse is worth his place in the race. He should develop into a nice Cup horse next year and his future is in front of him but Saturday is a big day. We'll do our best then and see what next year brings us after that."

Sir Michael Stoute - Total Command
: "We'll check on the ground on Thursday morning and make a decision over whether he runs then. He ideally wants good or softer.

"His preparation for the Voltigeur went very badly and he was badly in need of the race but it's gone smoothly since then and we've done what we wanted to do with him. Before York he had a skin infection and then a joint infection so we were getting messed around. The ground there was quick enough for him too.

"We felt he didn't stay the two miles in the Queen's Vase and the mile-and-six in the Leger should be ideal. His full-sister (Quiff) went very, very close in the race and was only touched off by a short-head."

Hi Bob txs

St Leger the oldest of the Classics, remember Lester Piggott winning on Nijinsky in 1970 to win the triple crown (2000 gns, Derby)
Lester won the race 8 times and I think Frankie 5 at this stage, not often a filly wins? much the same as the Derby interesting to see Snow Fairy giving it a bash, but guess I will stick with Rewilding.
