No, its not Fok's new jock. He forms part of the horse owners for Palm of Peace running this weekend in the first race, maybe has a relation with Richard Fourie!
Hope you will find somebody who can help me? By the way, any fancies for tomorrow?

In Mauritius when you back a horse you have to buy 'Books'. A book is 500 Rupees. 100 books is 50,000 rupees. So if a horse is 10/1 it will cost 50 rupees a book (50x 10 = 500) Thats relatively cheap. A horse that is 2/1 will cost 250 rupees (250 x 2 = 500) a book therefor considered expensive ( you wont find many punters on the island wanting to back these horses as they are expensive)
I know this is hard to understand as it took me a while but here is a chart i have worked out,
50/1 will cost 10 rupees (10 x 50/1 = 500) very cheap.
25/1 will cost 20 rupees (20x 25/1 =500) still cheap.
10/1 will cost 50 rupees (50 x 10/1 =500) cheapish!
5/1 will cost 100 rupees (100 x 5/1 =500) not so cheap
2/1 will cost 250 rupees (250 x 2/1 =500) expensive
1/1 will cost 500 rupees (500 x 1/1 = 500) f*cking expensive.

To simplify, a book(500 rupees) divided by the odds(price) of a horse..............these islanders have an odd way of booking, sorry looking at things.

Hi Mark your table above is not quite right. An even money shot costs 250 rupees a book because you get your stake back in the 500 rupees or book. a 2/1 shot would cost 166.66 rupees( they normally quote 165), a 3/1 shot 125 rupees, a 4/1 shot would cost 100 rupees, a 5/1 shot 83.33 rupees, a 9/1 shot would cost 50 rupees etc etc.
