Thanks hibs.... You been to Fouries in Pietermaritzburg??? What a class venue. If you ever have to go to a place where the food is good, lots of room, various rooms... Fouries is the place... Damn I miss that place.... Nothing in JHB, that I have seen, can come close to this place! Chalk and cheese

According to the weather forecast on SABC, they are expecting a 40 kph wind blowing down the coast from the north/north-east; will this not be a head-wind in the straight?

Top venue and good people at Fourie's .... I must just "work on them and convince them" to do fixed place multiples before the raceday as its my favorite bet and often keeps me from going there.

Morning guys just to report the comedy evening was first class Abbott and Crabb were a great act and the dueling banjos was one of the highlights. James hosted the night and Laff was on the ball with his one liners. Plenty money was made for the trust with Marsh digging deep.
Barry Hilton proved again he is world class and had the place in stitches.
txs again to the Fourie brothers.

Frodo, north/northeast would certainly be a headwind. Unless they've moved the July to Clairwood and forgot to inform anybody.

Frodo - Your info comes from the SABC, can this be trusted? I would rather get a weather report from Teletrack (LOL). I must apologise though, I thought that the circles with arrows show wind directions. In school we were taught that wind direction is expressed by the direction it flows from. Weather SA has a different view.
I have it on good authority from a mate who is a local commercial fisherman and my brother in law who is in the Sharks Board that wind Guru provides the most accurate and reliable weather information. www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=4865
According to wind Guru, Saturdays wind will be a headwind as Frodo has stated. It wont be 40KM/h but will peak at 17KM/H with gusts of up to 20KM/H at between 14h00 and 17h00. 23 degree max temp expected. The good news is that there is zero cloud cover predicted and that the Northerly winds seldom bring rain. Wind from the other direction does however.
All in all Saturday looks good for a Durban winters day and the wind should not play to much of a part if it sticks to 17KM/H headwind. A perfect day for a perfect event.

Thanks Magic and Al for confirming that there will probably be a headwind; so it could be (depending on the strength of the wind) that the jocks will try to get cover for as long as possible (without being too far back) - I don't think the horse that is in front at the 300 will win the race; now I just need to figure out who is going to be in front at the 300 - and then pick one of the remaining 19 runners - easy:D. Probably stick with the 'big race' jocks: Fayd'Herbe, Shea, Marcus, Delpech, Neisius,Lloyd, Coetzee and Strydom - the one with the coolest head (and the best horse) will win(tu)
