For weeks the Paddy Power Champion Hurdle had been spoken about as a potential showdown between two sublime hurdlers, but the absence of one was barely noticed by an adoring, record-sized Punchestown crowd as Honeysuckle did what she does best to make it a sweet 16th straight win.

Race sponsors Paddy Power made no change to the 2023 Unibet Champion Hurdle market, with the absent Constitution Hill still 2-1 and Honeysuckle 7-2.

It was her 12th top-level success, eclipsing fellow legendary mare Apple's Jade's 11 Grade 1 victories.

State Of Rest is a brilliant horse. Last year around August 2021/September 2021 he won a Group 1 at Saratoga. It was his second run after a long rest and was 20/1. I backed it that day due Joseph O' Brien training it. He then went to Australia in October 2021 and won the Cox Plate, the premier WFA race down under. Today in France he won another Group 1. This was his first run from Australia last year.

One to follow especially travelling abroad.

Ryan had a nice treble at Chester and Changingoftheguard becomes another possible Derby winner for the Obrien machine.
