Mike Azzie and the R3.6 million
15 years 1 month ago
The most expensive horse ever purchased in SA. I remember Azzie purchasing Mr Hawaii in the late 80's for a then record of R550000. (Fundi's correct me if I am wrong).
In these dire times it is good to see that some people can still afford to buy horses for millions, race them for stakes that are an insult to any owner and live by the dream that one day their horsie will win big overseas or be sold off.
I see that Mike De Kock has recently purchased both Bold Silvano and Irish Flame ( who I expect to roll PJ over this distance) for quite a bit less. If you offered me R3.6 million, Azzie's yearling or either Irish Flame/Bold Silvano then I would choose,
1) The R3.6 million. I would buy a holiday cottage
2) Irish Flame/Bold Silvano. I know I am buying horses that with a bit of luck could run and feature in the July
3) Azzie's yearling. Now I would be forced to find the R3.6 million when I realised that I lost my head and let Steve (I can sell anything) Davis sucker me in. Then all the sleepless nights of waiting for him to run and not make a fool of my investment. Damn should I not have rather bought a New York lottery ticket and in the words of Martin Luther gone to sleep clutching it in my hand mumbling repetitively, "I have a dream". I suppose I also could dream about the R50k winning cheque when/if he cracks his maiden.
How goes the saying "MORE MONEY THAN BRAINS"

Yes Mr Hawaii we bought (zoro and myself) a horse Breathless for R2000 at the same time and we did the bus story to the big T and watched her win her maiden.

Did Wonderlawn not have this record before...need I say more... perhaps this tag is more weighty than the jockeys that ride them.
All the best though to them. swings and round abouts suggest this may be a good one

Must have been something about this horse, Dean Kannemeyer was the underbidder.

I think Wonder Lawn was knocked down for 3.3m.

Record now R4m for Lot 127, colt by Jet Master out of Divine Nymph by Al Mufti, a half-brother to Divine Jury. Bought by Geoff Woodruff.

I am starting to believe that we are seeing ''fun and games'' by the breeders. Dean Kannemeyer underbidder on both. Something smells.
