Country jockey banned for betting on 48 races
By Racingandsports.com.au 11:23PM 7 APR 2010

Australia: New South Wales country jockey Danny Peisley has been suspended for three months for betting on 48 racing events over a two-month period.

Peisley also is to face an ongoing inquiry after being charged with placing bets placed on the TAB jockey challenge conducted on the Taree meeting on January 28 when he forfeited two mounts late in the morning after advising that he was overweight.

Peisley was charged after Racing NSW stewards conducted an inquiry into matters associated with betting activities on the Taree Jockeys' Challenge on January 28 and betting activity on a TAB account in the name of Peisley's wife Ellen.

Evidence was taken from Peisley and fellow north coast jockey Peter Graham, trainer Tas Morton, jockey agent Brett Adkins and Ellen Peisley.

Peisley pleaded guilty to a charge of having placed 48 bets between November 28 and January 28 on thoroughbred races via his wife's TAB account.

Stewards took into account this was Peisley's first breach of the betting rules before imposing a three-month suspension on the jockey.

Peisley was also charged with having attempted to back Peter Graham to win the Taree jockey challenge on January 28, evidence showing he tried to place the bet between 8.57am and 9.57am.

In doing so, Peisley breached the rule that prohibits jockeys from betting on any contingency on thoroughbred racing.

However, the hearing of this charge was adjourned so that a closer examination of telephone communications from Peisley's mobile phone on January 28 may be obtained.

The stewards advised Peisley that they are continuing their investigations into a number of bets placed on Peter Graham towin the Jockeys' Challenge on January 28 prior to official notification being given at or around 11.50am that Peisley was overweight and Graham was replacing him on the Tas Morton-trained stablemates Lots Of Success (Race 5) and I Love Legs (Race 8).

Stewards indicated that they will be serving notice to two Sydney punters who placed bets on the Jockeys' Challenge on the morning of the January 28 to attend the inquiry with Peisley.

I say let them punt - from my experience the tips I've received from jocks in the past would quickly see them driving to races on scooters :)

(:P)Can't argue with that, Mr H. Most of them will even lose the scooter to the repo man.
