that's why a punter association with all the clans members must be put in place so we have a loud voice, then issues like these, that clearly needs attention can be raised with a loud voice because i imagine that a lot of the money in the pools come from the pockets of the clan.

Hi ElvisKing,
I think Nicci is a nicely balanced jockey and there are a lot of horses that will suit her style of riding and she certainly deserves more chances, having said that its a tough game and worse still for the ladies because there is a mindset out there that they are not strong enough, but i think if i could offer some advice to Nicci she must become mentally tough take no shit from the boys ride work for the big stables because they will throw her a bone and an agentis part and parcel of a jockeys life now and so it is important that he has your best interest at heart and most of all be brave put yourself out there market youself. In this game you need totake the game by the scruff of the neck.Hope you achieve your dreams Nicci because they are attainable.Iwish you all the best

Elvis I have been following this thread and of course little Elvis career, not only because she a girl but cos I reckon she can ride with the limited chances etc. I have often wondered what one needs to do to get into being an agent etc, I am unemployed and at home ( for unfortunate reasons) and have been looking for a job that can be done from home. And racing is perfect, any ideas or suggestions anyone?

First of all you will need the skin of a rhino,an agent has to be assertive even a bit aggressive,he has to have his ear to the ground, mustbe able to read a race well, study form, understand handicapping and the merit rating system.havean exellent rapore with the trainers and owners,be trustworthy and first and foremost have his jockeys interest at heart. There are agents who have taken underperforming jockeys and made them famous,Sloop comes to mind with a few of my mates

Tangles

Thank you for the comment. If i could i would LOVE the option to take a jockey and work with him/her and build them up. This will be quite difficult now because i live in the UK (doable still) . This time round if i did it i would do it a bit different and would need FULL commitment from the jockey in question and a signed contract with ZERO input from family or friends.

I WOULD INSIST that the jockey watch JERRY MAGUIRE 10 times a agent makes promises BUT the jcokey needs to be on board.

FOR ME there is NOTHING wrong with spending the 1st year if the partership riding every single piece of soupmeat one can find, full card of rides.

Jockeyship is all about confidence and race riding fitness/tactics.

personally i feel that a "new" agent with a struggling (new jcokey) will fail.

Let me give you an example, if i took on a jockey now i would phone alec laird and that jockey would be riding work there straight away and riding the soupmeat in the yard. This is because myself and alec have a fantastic strike rate.

If the jockey i took on was "top class" he would be straight in there.

So it is important to have a relationship with trainers , if you are both starting off it will be a daunting task.

Tangles, you seem to know exactly what is required..... were you an agent before ? don't you have a few contacts ? you seem to be in " the know "

wagga wagga, thanks for your offer of trying to get involved.

easy, I think you spot on there..... a struggling jock with a " new agent on the block " a recipe for disaster.

who's that famous T.V. tipster from CAPE TOWN - " WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE " ? a big circle, me thinks.
