Bookmaker or Racketeer
15 years 4 months ago
Guess there is a thin line between Bookmaker and Racketeer.
Lets look at a dice, number 1 to 6.
If I am to lay bets on which number will appear, guess I can be called a bookmaker.
now lets alter the dice without the punter knowing. remove the 1 and have two 3's on the dice.
If I am to lay bets on which number will appear, guess I will lay the 1 and be small on the 3?
this is where the thin line becomes a thinner line..no line..virual line,,???
Am I now called a Bookmaker or a Racketeer..???
Interesting question..

Tosh Tosh Tosh,it`s upto every punter to do his or her home work to give them selves an "edge"
I have never had a gun held to my head and been forced to have a bet...

Hibernia,
I agree with you as a punter.
however I am trying to establish the view on the Difference between Racketeer and Bookmaker.
Me, personally would prefer the Racketeer route.
With what I have seen and learned, very few or any would beat me as a Racketeer.
lets view the following example :
assume that you and me are cousins, both 1-2-3 men. 1L brandy, 2L coke & 3L Ford
You are the bookie and I am a trainer..heaven help the owners..
Its January 30, 2010 and I have a 8/10 runner...strongly fancied..
We, each need R100k pm to feed our families and extended families (girlfriends)
SO, are you going to lay the fav an even R200K for us..
Or are we going to extent the O/D with another R100k each...
lets view another example..
you stay the bookie..I am the jockey..will have to loose 55kg before I ride..
we grew up as friends since we were 8 years old..you ate my food..I weigh 53kg..
same senario..
its Janaury 30, 2010 and I am riding a 8/10...strongly fancied..

After the race we will call the trainer and jockey names (that's me in this example..so watch your mouth...will feather and tar you)
What do we call the bookie..???
a Bookmaker or a Racketeer...
