The clip on Inside Racing suggesting the sponsorship is for fun and will get poker players racing may hold some truth, but lets not fool ourselves,..SPONSORSHIP IS AN INVESTMENT,not charity! There has to be a return to the sponsor...no mention of what they perceive that to be.

Rob- i still cant believe Piggs Peak are allowed to sponsor! I take my hat off to the Piggs Peak marketing team for pulling off the coo of the year!! Surely there are other corporates out there that can be shown the value of racing and entertaining in our industry. But we give it to our Main opposition! I am still befuddled.

We would get threatened by a firing squad if we put an "ILLEGAL" on the site..

Yeah Hibs, understand the Politics, but Im tired of it! The Punter and our Industry and its well being must come top of the list. But instead they are always threatening competition? Why is that? Because thats the only way the know how! No vision, just go with what they know. Sorry to say this is not 1920 and things are very different!!

Aha,I see Tellytrack being used to show the All Africa tonight.Could the trade off be to use tellytrack for poker when no racing?I think Channel 112 is about to be a thing of the past so makes some sense I guess. Tellytrack has also lost "racing international" at night so it works for them?
Just a guess tho!

Another Question ( why are there always questions ) How much does Piggs Peak sponsorship amount to? What does it take to be a mainline sponsor on the SA racing front? Anyone know?

I have no problem with Casino's sponsoring racemeetings but my idea has always been to use the two to benifit each other - I have been to the few Casino's in Gauteng but have never been to Piggs Peak - What reason would I have to go there? Swaziland? No INTERNET punting is the only reason. The only serious way to get sponsorship is to reasses the product and take note of the fact that it is not a strong brand. To salvage the sport a broad spectrum company needs to get involved that is willing to take a risk. Where you will find such a beast I have no idea.

Is Swaziland another province in SA,because according to the 'Warning To The Public' that I see in every computaform,

"In terms of F.1.7 of The Exchange Control rules,it is illegal for South African residents to participate in foreign lotteries, sweepstakes and betting organizations.Contravention of this rule shall lead to the withdrawal of all credit or debit cards of the holder and also to prosecution in terms of the aforementioned regulations"

Does this mean that if BF opens a bank account in SA it is entitled to receive local funds into it's account and we can bet of BF?

Maybe I've missed something here, but how can Piggs Peak possibly be legal? Is a casino based in Swazi not considered a betting organization?

I think another boo-boo on par with the 'unfortunate' term 'lucky numbers' - perhaps someone who is planning to attend the night racing 'media launch' scheduled for this coming Tuesday night, could ask this question to the Pigss Peak people who are (as I understand it) going to give some advice on the intricacies of poker.

I wonder how the Piggs Peak team feel looking at the visuals of past Night racing as compared with the first night - there is no comparison - the course was slightly fuller than normal it seems but what income they could possibly derive from investing there must wholly be based on the notion that horse players will use their internet site to play poker as I'm not sure if your standard punter will be rushing to Swaziland to play poker when Gold Reef is just up the road(a far better option in my opinion - I'd rather have given them the option at a tenth of the price than give it to Piggs Peak)

Good point JAP,but as I posted on another thread, that warning is misleading,as it is a forex issue only!
Swaziland falls into the Rand monetary area for forex purposes so no law broken........and if the money you use for betfair is legally out the country...no law broken.
I challenge anyone to quote another law that prohibits betting on an exchange, from SA, into a country where the transaction is legal!
Forget the "south africans can't lay bets"....in the UK they can,and that is where the Offer/acceptance/transaction takes place!

And as you say, these self righteous blokes are in bed with both!
