I know that once upon a time ,declared jockeys could only be replaced by jockeys of similar competence and experience.Has that rule changed or are Delpech and Mgudlwa regarded as being on a par?

It definitely used to be so.I can remember horses being scratched due to "no suitable jockey available"....and suitable was the operative word.

Hi Rob the rule is that any jockey & apprentice can be changed before 9.00am in the morning of the race day concerned. There after a jockey has to replace a jockey, no like for like & an apprentice must replace an apprentice.A non claiming apprentice may pick up a jockeys ride & vicer verser. If there is no jockey available then an apprentice may pick up a jockeys ride & again vicer verser. I hope this helps.
