MEL KAPLAN - Rubnik and Snazzy Jazz are the only runners in Race 8, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m at Flamingo Park this afternoon, with commendable recent credentials over the distance. Of the pair, three-year-old Rubnik has the better record at Flamingo Park and is taken to win.

That said, one cannot overlook the good win posted by Snazzy Jazz on turf at the Vaal on Thursday. Should the Joshua Dancer gelding reproduce that form on the Kimberley sand the year-younger gelding could have a fight on his hands.

In their last clash over this track and trip Rubnik finished 0.50 lengths ahead of Snazzy Jazz when carrying 52kg as opposed to the 60kg of Snazzy Jazz.

This time Rubnik is carded to carry 53.5kg with Snazzy Jazz set to shoulder 56.5kg. The latter should not incur a penalty for the turf win but that is at the discretion of the handicapper so Snazzy Jazz might not enjoy the full 2kg pull he has at the current weight allocation.

Nevertheless, Snazzy Jazz had a hard race and four days is possibly not quite enough time for him to recover his full strength. Rubnik on the other hand has not raced since 23 November and should be capable of running to the best of his ability.

Rubnik won twice in his first 10 runs while Snazzy Jazz raced 22 times for his two first places and has yet to win at Flamingo Park whereas Rubnik’s two victories were both recorded here.
Solomons Temple is course suited and can place but has yet to win over the minimum trip. Topspin has a small chance on his good penultimate run. Shoe King needed his last run and can improve to feature.
