sad to see that this years summer cup couldnt even get a full field of 20..EVEN WORSE IS THAT HALF THE FIELD HAVE MERIT RATINGS OF LESS THAN 100 COMPARED TO the july which had a full field of 20 with only 2 having ratings of less than a hundred..this race will never ever compete with the met and july and secondly i ask the question should it retain group one status

Suppose having to get a horse ready for November then keep it ticking over to July has something to do with it?

Toss up between the Cup or the July for some? July wins?

I couldn't agree more.....I remember a few years ago when Eddington won the SC....Thought he could turn into a serious racehorse, only never to hear from hima again.

I dont' think the scheduling is particularly kind to this race. It should perhaps be ran end of April with the JHB summer season.....

Oh well. We take what we can get. So now we have to look for horses who have been particularly prepared for this race.

Come on Magical and Pierre Strydom!!!!

I would like to see less horses contesting the biggest races as is the case in the UK. The no hopers make the race less tactical and often can spoil chances of better horses by making them race wide etc. Jocks would be able to follow their main dangers probably making for closer finishes

Yep, have to agree, they can write the check out to Charles Laird so long, can't see anything give the stable a run for their money...think the ready to run cup attracted more talent...where's the cape horses...? Probably getting ready for J&B...

Tommy. I agree 100% with your 3rd line of your post.

Radetzky. Not so fast. Charles Laird won't have the honours of box no 1.

Magical? mmm.... No.

Look somewhere else.

Look for odds you would have got for the 2007 summer cup winner Strategic News.

The way it's going at the moment best to look for those with webbed feet to swim home - Cape guys should start to raid as their lot more comfortable in the slop -

Must say after all this rain i'm starting to lean towards Mr.Hawaii & Bubby...

Lions Blood or Magical in these conditions? Maybe Tommy & Gregbucks can also give their comments...they usually tend to get these right...
