The Cape Sizzling Summer season kicks into serious mode this weekend with the switch over to the new course at Kenilworth and the running of one of the most important J&B Met lead-up races, the Gr 2 Green Point Stakes sponsored by Ocean Basket.

Is BCL good enough to win when he is not fit, carrying top weight and running over a distance short of his best?

I'm not saying he cannot win, all I'm saying is he ain't no 18/10 shot!!

I'll be looking elsewhere. Maybe the Bass coupling. I fancy Bill of Rights for Mr. Neisius, but if BCL does not win then anything can win.

Good punting

JACK MILNER - MANY pundits regard Big City Life as the natural successor to Pocket Power and Glen Kotzen’s charge will test that view when he contests the Grade 2 Green Point Stakes over 1600m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

The Durban July winner ran second to Pocket Power in this race last year and on that occasion went off at 20-1. This time he is sure to be a short-priced favourite and the public will have high expectations of their new hero.

In the past Mike Bass has used this race as Pocket Power’s season pipe-opener but "due to problems", Pocket Power only had his first grass gallop on Wednesday. "He’s holding up well so far," said Bass. "We will go for the Diadem Sprint, the Queen's Plate and then the J&B Met."

Big City Life has not raced since his July victory but the formbook indicates he races well fresh. The Queen’s Plate is his mission followed by the Met, so Kotzen will obviously leave something to work on.

His record of seven wins from 12 starts speaks for itself and he remains the runner they will all have to beat.

With Dancer’s Daughter now retired, Justin Snaith will be looking to Sparkling Gem to step into her shoes. The strapping daughter of Joshua Dancer has one up on Big City Life - she demonstrated her fitness by winning the Grade 3 Diana Stakes in October.

Felix Coetzee is at Turffontein for the International Jockeys’ Challenge so ``MJ’’ Byleveld will deputise.

Ivory Trail has also had an outing since upsetting Pocket Power in the Champions Cup at Clairwood in July and is an obvious danger should Big City Life prove to need the run.

Rus are you not worried about the 1600m (Sparkling Gem). This may be a bridge too far for her?

Personally I think the two Ramsden runners will fight this one out. Ivory Trail was in need of his last run, today should be spot on and Bush Pirate runs well fresh, just a hunch but I reckon he will be in the top 4.

Bush Pirate? On his Cape Guineas run he could easily win. But, not the sort to trust with the rent money, to say the least.
