Vaal sand meeting switched to turf.

DUE to last-minute snags, the race meeting scheduled for the Vaal sand track on Tuesday 3 November has had to be switched to the outside half of the turf track.
The replacement of the sand racing surface at the venue began last month and the project was going to schedule until unforeseen glitches necessitated switching the 3 November meeting to grass.
As a result of the change of surface Race 3 on the card will now be run over 1400m instead of 1450m. But horseplayers should note that because the meeting was changed to grass only after final acceptances, merit ratings and weights will be as declared.
Thus sand merit ratings will apply in spite of the surface being grass and trainers have been given until 10am Friday to withdraw runners at their discretion. - Phumelela

I wonder howm may of the reces will be scrapped due to lack of runners?

Are they just replacing like for like?

maybe clydes replacement at the ra can investigate on behalf of its members,but hang on he left in june and we almost in november and nobody has taken his position as yet..the mediocrity continues in the racing industry

the track as far as i know was not resurfaced in time - I would HOPE that before any racing takes place on the new surface horses are galloped on the track - not one or two but the maximum field size - that the track would be tested for water drainage(we don't want the pond we had earlier in the year) - that jockeys,trainers and vets are present when test races are run to ensure the track is suitable for racing -
