A New Threat To Racing?
15 years 8 months ago
Other recent posts ( eg Sea the Stars ) have detailed some of the many threats to the survival of the sport.
I innocently upgraded my home theatre recently and now find - for purely technical reasons - it even more unappealing to watch racing. Here's why :
Tellytrack is under almost constant fire regarding the content and quality of their broadcasts. Most of the criticism is, in my opinion, justified. The advent of high defintion and increasingly larger viewing screens is starting to put enormous pressure on the actual picture they put out when compared to other sports. Clearly their equipment appears to be not far removed from the 'hand held videocam' quality - and it shows......
Add to that their insistence that they cram data onto every available centimetre of the screen even when a race is in progress and it becomes clear that Tellytrack is now not far removed from becoming a simple data channel.
In my case they have managed to almost completely dissuade me from punting and given that my view of proceedings is often obscured by the data I am increasingly amusing myself with other channels.
Clearly my next step will be to stop keeping horses as attending a race meeting can hardly be described as exciting.......

I agree completely with this data overload that Tellytrack is ramming down everyone's throats.
I was watching a race last week with the screen split between the data and the race, there was also some Tellytrack logo taking up such a significant amount of space it was difficult to see who the horses were!

yes, Andre is starting up the trainer and punter workshops up north, Garrick can do his bit for racing by 'educating the girls'....
