It`s not the winning,it`s taken part that matters..
15 years 8 months agoYoumzain going down by a head to Dylan Thomas in the 2007 Arc
You got to feel sorry for Mick Channon and Youmzain,or do you?
The 6yo son of Sinndar has now been runner up in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe 3 years on the trot.
In 2007 he was second beaten a head to Dylan Thomas,a horse K Fallon reckoned to be the best he sat on.
2008 he wen`t down to the great Zarkava, beaten 2l by the wonder filly.
And ofcourse yesterday getting up for second behind one of the greatest race horses we have seen for generations Sea the stars.
Experts/critics have questioned his efforts in a finish, and to a certain extent i agree he possibly should have turned some of his places to wins.
TBH i think he just loves coming through big fields and for a horse that has been accused of being chicken hearted in a finish ,he really shows us what he`s made of in one of the roughest races in racing.
His race record has more 2`s and 3`s than perhaps it should have hes ran 26 times winning 6 times for stakes of over £300,000 including two grp1s and a grp2.
This is the wow part his 14 places have ammassed him an amazing £3.2m (R39m)in place money ..
What a Super star Mick Channon and the Owner must be sick!!!

Youmzain set for Far East
Arc runner-up seeks compensation in Hong Kong
Youmzain is set to run again this year after owner Jaber Abdullah reversed his decision to send the horse on a winter break.
The U-turn comes after his impressive effort behind Sea The Stars in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, his third successive second-placed finish in the race.
Connections of the owner had said Youmzain would be retired for the remainder of 2009, but the six-year-old has now been entered in the Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin on December 13.
The decision to postpone his break follows talks between trainer Mick Channon and the owner's racing manager Bruce Raymond, who believe he could prove successful in the Far East.
"Jaber has given the all-clear to take Youmzain to Hong Kong and I think it's a great move," Channon told www.mickchannon.tv .
"He's cantered since he came back from Paris and to all intents and purposes has come out of it really well.
"He's such a character and I'm sure he'll prove effective at Sha Tin. I've saddled a horse there and it's a beautiful track and a great place to go. The ground should be fine for him out there."
Youmzain's first run of 2010, meanwhile, is likely to be at the new Meydan racecourse in the Dubai Sheema Classic, a race in which he has finished third and fourth in the last two runnings.
"He stays in training, which is great news, and his first target will be another tilt at the Sheema Classic," Channon continued.
"Hopefully the new course at Meydan will bring with it a bit of luck in that race. We all got such a thrill out of his Arc run and there's so much to look forward to with him next year."
