MR used by punters for selection process....

A rather interesting subject to debate..
lets debate it..
I have already agreed..I am clueless on MR..it does not make sense to me..

1.As a trainer...
MR must be usefull.
It can be manipulated in many ways.
we have seen that with PETRUS

2.D division to A division races...
For the creation of fields, eliminating horses, must be a great tool.

3.Punters using MR to select winners, PA horses or P6 horses...

to solve this, we will have to move our minds to another level.
during the years we moved form 1D to 3D thinking, but its time to move beyond that.

It's only in the latter years that collateral form has been considered.
Think it was Brett Smith (sometime this year) that suggested on Tellytrack that there is another way to look at horses.

so during the years, we added more dimensions to our thinking:
from time (where I am still stuck)
draw
weight
MR
Collateral form
and improved our SELECTION MODEL process.

guess that if we took Peter Duffield from the 80's (no one was match on the annual tipping competitions..he won by 2 months normally)
with his mindset (SELECTION MODEL PROCESSES) of then,
and let him compete with the guys of today (with the improved mindset)(SELECTION MODEL PROCESSES)..

he will fall far short..
like someone with 1D competing with someone with 3D..

hence I suggest we move to OLAP..
we take our data (history of horse that ran)
put the data in cubes..
have unlimited angles to view the patterns from..not just 1D,2D or 3D..

all the above dimensions such as
1. time
2. draw
3. weight
4. ....
5. etc
will all become ingredients, part of a pattern...

note that I left out MR and collateral form as ingredients..

both, in my humble opinion are patterns.
patterns that have evolved from our thinking during the years.
as we realised that we could not look at ingredients alone, such as "time",
we started mixing the ingredients together and patterns evolved..such as MR and COLLATERAL FORM..

both of these patterns are distorted views of the future outcome of a race.
we can see that in the results, the horses dont run to collateral form, when they run on a different track, different distance, different jockey...and maybe 100's of different variables..

That's why we need OLAP with CUBES..
each of theses different variables becomes a new dimension or NEW PATTERN..
we can group these patterns together, ie. use them as ingredients and come up with one or two SUPER PATTERNS..

we can follow these PATTERNS and get more accurate answers..
the PATTERNS (such as MR and collateral form) that we created with our limited mindsets, will fade into the distance during the next 2 years..???

so, in the near future..we will have the tipsters vs the computer system
something like boris spassky vs big blue..

in the near future..
First quater of 2010...!!!!!!
