Yeats could be retired after his run in the Cadran

Watched an interview on the racing channel in the UK this afternoon with Aidan O`Brien blaming the going for Yeats bad run in the Irish Field ST Leger.

And with suitable going in france on Arc weekend looking likely he was hinting that Yeats could finish his career with a run in the Prix Cadran,
a race that he has been beaten odds on favourite the last two years.

The Trainer said:

"Yeats is like a lot of intelligent people in that when he gets older, he gets wiser," O'Brien told At The Races.

"He knows how to look after himself and we always find the good horses are like that in that they develop their own mind and only let you push them so far, which is why they stay around so long.

"When he was younger he handled soft ground because he pushed himself but now when the ground is soft, he just looks after himself.

"He came out of the race well and is fresh so we'll have a look at the Prix du Cadran for him if the ground is nice.

"Something like that could be his last run if the ground is right and he seems to be right."

Yeats installed as 9-4 favourite for Cadran

FOUR-TIME Gold Cup winner Yeats has been installed as 9-4 favourite by Blue Square for the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp on October 4.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien nominated the Group 1 as a possible final race for the star stayer on Tuesday, although he did warn Yeats would need to encounter his favoured ground conditions to participate.

Despite his dominance in the staying division, Yeats has been beaten in the last two runnings of the Cadran - both as odds-on favourite.

Alandi, winner of the Irish Field St Leger, a race in which Yeats finished last, is next best at 3-1, while Kasbah Bliss is a 7-2 chance.

Prix du Cadran
Blue Square: 9-4 Yeats, 3 Alandi, 7-2 Kasbah Bliss, 6 Schiaparelli, 7 Askar Tau, 8 Incanto Dream, 10 Pointilliste, 12 Geordieland, Pouvoir Absolu, 14 Orion Star, 16 Basaltico, Covert Ambition, The Betchworth Kid, 20 Shemima, Tastahil

Yeats features among 24 horses remaining in Arc

YEATS is a surprise appearance among the 24 horses left in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday at Tuesday'slatest forfeit stage.

Westerner finished second to Hurricane Run in the 2005 Arc having won that year's Ascot Gold Cup but Yeats's trainer Aidan O'Brien said on Sunday that the four-time Ascot Gold Cup winner would run in the Prix du Cadran, for which he is the 2-1 favourite with Paddy Power and which is likely to be his final race.

O'Brien has also left Fame And Glory, Set Sail, Johann Zoffany, Grand Ducal and Hail Caesar in the Arc field.

Favourite Sea The Stars remains in the Arc and was cut again on Tuesday, with Boylesports shortening him to 8-11 (from 5-6) for the 1m4f Group 1.

Vision D'Etat, who "worked very well" on Monday according to jockey Olivier Peslier when speaking on At The Races, also features in the entries, along with Dar Re Mi and dual Arc runner-up Youmzain.

The final field may yet feature three supplementary entries in the shape of Stacelita, Cavalryman and - if it rains- Sariska.

YEATS will have the final run of his career in the Prix du Cadran on Sunday.

O'Brien said: "All is well with Fame And Glory and we are looking at running Grand Ducal and, maybe, one other as well. Yeats runs in the Prix du Cadran and it will be his last race before retirement."
