Laird trio get dream draws
CHAMPION trainer Charles Laird was on hand to see three of his five Sansui Summer Cup runners land very favourable starting positions at an unusual barrier draw event at Turffontein today.
Race favourite Oracy (5/2) drew gate 5, while Laird’s other two fancied candidates, Rudi Rocks (7/1) and Eight Street (8/1), will line up right alongside in gates 6 and 7 respectively.
Laird, bidding for his first Summer Cup win, also has two outsiders in the big race, – Senor Versace (25/1) and Likeithot (50/1), which drew 16 and 17 respectively.
The R2-million Sansui Summer Cup (Grade 1) – the Highveld’s most prestigious race – will be run at Johannesburg’s Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday, November 28.
Sansui is sponsoring the historic race for the first time, and David Hirsch, group executive of the JD Group, which markets Sansui in South Africa, was on hand to oversee the race draw at the luncheon ceremony.
Other fancied horses in the race had mixed fortunes at the draw – which featured horses’ connections presenting roses to bikini-clad models, who flashed open overcoats to reveal the gate numbers.
Second favourite Magical (28/10), from the Ormond Ferrraris yard, will start from position 14.
The Alec Laird-trained Captain Scott (7/1) will jump from No 9.
South Africa’s globetrotting star trainer Mike de Kock has won the Summer Cup no fewer than eight times, his last victoy coming with Rudra last year. This time round his hopes are pinned on Meet At Malamala (10/1), which drew gate 10.
The full final field (number, name, draw, trainer, jockey, mass, merit rating):

Hibs - I see you only looked at the KZN based trainers before you took the formgrids screenshot.
Seeing the promo as an omen for Meet at Malamala. Experts say he wont see it out.

Me think Kobus is quietly confident about his runner in the Dingaans...

Hibs...I will never forget when it won its maiden....Trainer said it was his Derby horse....That Dingaans field looks like a cracker.
Does anyone give Killaridge a chance in the SC?...maybe a place??...I have this funny feeling that one of the older boys is gonna upset...(Pure speculation of course)

I think the SC is open (Oracy, Magical or anything - I'm hoping for some frineds and ex-partners of mine that Horatio runs a big race); but in the Dingaans I think Exhiliration is the right one; only 'unknown' imo Galileo's Galaxy, but would have to be very special to outrun Exhiliration; the good thing from Kobus's point of view is that I'm often wrong.....
