South Africa Day at Newmarket..

Saturday is Racing South Africa Day which provides a shop window in this country for the South African racing and bloodstock industries. All seven races are sponsored by Racing South Africa or by South African companies with a horseracing association.

They include Investec, the sponsors of the day’s feature race, the Investec Cesarewitch Trial, who also sponsored the Derby at Epsom for the first time this year. The international specialist banking group was established in Johannesburg in 1974.

The other big race on the card, the Phumela Gold Enterprises Handicap, is sponsored by the international pari-mutuel betting company which runs the South African tote.

1:45 Racing South Africa Handicap Cl4 6f

2:25 Bloodstock South Africa E B F Fillies´ Handicap Cl3 1m4f

3:00 Phumelela Gold Enterprises Handicap Cl2 1m2f

3:40 Investec Cesarewitch Trial Heritage Handicap Cl2 2m2f CH4

4:15 Betting World Claiming Stakes Cl4 1m4f

4:50 Sportsworld South Africa 2010 Handicap Cl3 1m

5:25 Kenilworth Quarantine Station Handicap Cl5 5f

Has been getting quite a lot of mentions over here today on the racing channels.

Does anyone think this will attract any new money from the UK?

Its a jolly day out for the "click" they come over and pretend that all is well in SA racing pat each other on the back and dangle the Ipi Tombe and other "cheap" champions road to fame. The pomms actually think that messrs Gibson and Pretorius are the voice of SA racing.

You know the kind of people that go to these do's. The kind that are so far up each others arse not one of them can see the issues with our racing.

Lack of races for maidens
Lack of consistent good tracks to race on
lack of lights at turfies
Lack of a "plan" that actually has horseracing's best interest at heart.

Instead its filled with sheep.... i met another one today that summed it all up.

in my local Tesco the lady at the deli said to me
" you alright?"
"no i have a headache"
"ahh thats nice"

sums up tomorrows event, lots of talking and NOTHING SAID

Greg

I was going to go to tell Dacharl and Peter Gibson and co what bollocks i think about sa racing but there are 2 reasons why i cant go.

1: i am due for a meeting in the morning
2: Charl is staying with my best friend and my best friends son is my bestest friend in the world we hang out often he is 7 years old and i love him and he loves me. Now the "problem " is Charl brought his daughter with him (and the kids get along now) and if i go there and make KAK (which i so want to ) i am going to disapoint my friends and especially my little friend. Out of respect for them i will not be going tomorrow.

if you go you can put your view across in a positive way, and contribute in person to constructive debate amongst the assembled hobnobs.

if you don't go then no-one is any the wiser. aaah that's nice.

I see we have an SA day at Newmarket in the UK, biltong and wors?

I have a friend going racing and asked me for a few tips, at first they asked me selections for Newbury, well as you may have gathered I am no tipster, but here is a copy of my emails

Please post your fancies

At this stage don't have much info on Newmarket, however my early selections would be

Fleeting Star
Brief Look
Call it On
Saga De Tercey
Brett Vale
Credit Swap
Silver Prelude

good punting

Dave

Hi Dave – hopefully your tips will pay for the airfare for 2010 soccer.

Thanks a lot

Subject: Newbury the 19th Sat

a bit early for full betting etc, however my initial thoughts would be.

1st: La Pantera with Richard Hughes

2nd: Radiohead hard to beat

3rd: Very difficult have a drink

4th: Must have an e.w. on JJ the Jet Plane at 8/1

5th Another drink is suggested.

6th: Critical Moment

7th: Glass Harmonium

8th: Enjoy your winnings and have a last drink

good punting!

Ayr is the place to be for Gold Cup day,a race that i have never picked the winner.

When they were drawing lots for the draw midweek the high draw was thought of as being advantageous,
but after yesterdays racing they have changed their mind and now the judges fancy the low draw..

Sure this race is the most valuable sprint handicap in Europe and is usually won by a horse that really gets the 1200m well,
but this year the going is surprisingly fast(for scotland in september).

Might risk a small bet on Zidane at 20/1+ he has plenty of ability but is not too reliable..
