Just having a look through the card at Tuffies Surprisingly small fields for the Better races ,races 5,6 and 9,is there a reason for this?

Just used to seeing big/max fields for all races at the big t and the Vaal..

Nope genuine Mark..lol

One of the races is an "open Handicap" was just wondering if these races are really open or is the handcapping a handicap?

The open handicap has a top weight,Mr90 carrying 60kg`s,the bottom weight Mr57 carrying 52kg`s yet the 74r horse is carrying the same weight..

Have a look here at the conditions of each race.

www.sahorseracing.co.za/Programs/HV/200909.pdf

The Pinnacle is not a true MR and weight is allocated according to the MR band you fall into. The other races are poorly supported as there are insufficient qualifying horses to support big fields. Imvho this is due to the programme and lack of suitable qualifying races to get horses up through the ranks. You might even say that these races have been set at the wrong MR if the object of the exercise is to maximise the field sizes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Frodo. If you have the ammunition to run in what is served up and don't get eliminated or saddled with a wide draw then there is no problem. How some of the smaller stables survive is beyond me.

We are back to the bad old days when most small stables had to punt in order to survive. Surely not good for the industry in the long term. Cartoon racing here we come.

Greg...and then Havasha could win the 4th leg - lol.

For us small punters with the limited budgets, I suggest the following (for what it's worth)

11 x 2,3,4,5 x 3,5,7 x 1,2,3,4,5,6,12 x 2,3 x 2,5 = R84 (25%)

Good punting!
