Gold Circle KZN Awards Evening

The Mike de Kock stable dominated Gold Circle’s KwaZulu-Natal Racing Awards held at a function at Greyville Racecourse on Thursday evening.
Woolavington 2000 winner and Vodacom Durban July runner-up Zirconeum was crowned Horse of the Year as well as Three-year-old Filly of the Year.
Other awards that went to the De Kock yard were Two-year-old Filly, Laverna, Two-year-old Colt or Gelding, Musir, Three-year-old Colt or Gelding, Forest Path while stable jockey, Anthony Delpech walked away with the leading jockey award. Groom of the Year went to Daniel Xabenblini, who looks after Zirconeum.
To crown it all, De Kock also took the Ernie Duffield Floating trophy for the KwaZulu-Natal trainer with the most winners, De Kock having edged out Dennis Drier in the last few meetings of the season.
Drier’s charge, Sharks Bay, was voted Sprinter of the Year.
Breeder of the Year went to the Scott Brothers whose runners amassed the most stakes earned in KwaZulu-Natal during the 2008/09 racing season.

KZN Apprentice Jockey Of The Year - Karis Teetan
KZN Jockey Of The Year - Anthony Delpech

Anita Akal Special Award - George Rowles
KZN Owner of the Year – Mrs I & Mr MJ Jooste
