Has this Happened To You

You are a first time owner and after months paying training fees, the big day has arrived and your horse is nominated to takes its place in a race.
You make the journey to the track to watch your horse run and at the starting gate your horse plays up and after numerous attempts to load him he is eventually scratched.
All the hype and the excitement you built is gone in a blink of an eye.
Has this ever happened to any members on the forum and what was your reaction?

Couple times.

First, told that the stall handlers do not know the horse, will send groom with next time.

Sends groom, horse still does not enter stalls- scratched!

One more time, willt try blinkers/pacifiers; still does not enter, gets suspended for unruliness!

Pissed off owning!

Not quite that bad, my first self-owned horsey made his debut earlier this year. Timed his race with a visit as i live in UK, he ran stone-last, glum faces all round. On plus side he hasn't finished last since then, but hasn't quite placed either, I guess that's racing!!

oscar is right. if the horse show you nothing in first 5 starts, or any subsequent 5 starts in a row you have problems. big problems.

Oscar can i ask an honest question here - when you say 'get rid him', what exactly does that mean? Not being funny, just wondering what options are if you own or even part-own a horse that is possibly not going to have a real future in racing, keeping the horses welfare in mind? (not planning on any such decision just yet myself!).

Sell up? Donate horse? If donate then who too?

Southpaw 1st choice parners buy you out at fair price

2nd choice you give partners yr share

If you own 100% then you give it to a respectable riding school and fone every couple months to see how hes doing

Giving yr share away might sound strange but Ive learnt from the best owners and I do it..it pays off in the end.
