Scotia on Gold Cup weekend.
15 years 10 months agoGood morning all, this is becoming a habit, but I am feeling rather positive as far as horse racing is concerned.
The move between Phumelela and Prime Media to promote and market the sport can only help improve attendance and interest in racing, in addition with lights going up at the big T, I would expect to see a steady upswing in our beloved sport during these financially depressing times.
The stats for the site have also shown a positive trend and we have had our best month ever in July with over 6,200 unique visitors with still one day to go and we regularly have over 600 unique visits per day.
If we also consider that last week we had 27 requests to register of which 20 of our email replies came back as "false" address, we are doing just fine.
I would again like to thank the sponsors for the continued support in addition to our daily visitors and posters.
We should also be making a further addition to our "one shop stop" objective in the next week, to ensure you enjoy your site visits to the full.
Its the Gold Cup on Saturday, but have no intention in trying to tip the winner, I would guess we have far easier pickings with Kokorot Sop, Woodlands Beauty, Vacherin, River Jetez and Eiffel.
In fact the best bet would to have a go at our FREE competition where the odds are R4000/ nil (now that's a good price).
We will also be racing on Sunday at the big T and also fancy a few favs, would love to tip you Clan Classique, but all I can say is that it would probably run a "decent" race, I will be having a few bob e.w. at around 20/1. The breaking news is that the farrier will be coming to see the Clan syndicate in the box, so having a horse is not necessarily about winning races.
The highlight at Glorious Goodwood was watching Rip Van Winkles win and considering how good is Sea the Stars, many would have read this on the site.
Highest Timeform Ratings of last 10 years:
140 Dubai Millenium
137 Montjeu
136p Sea The Stars
136 Hawk Wing, Sakhee
135 Manduro
134 Galileo, Hurricane Run, Sinndar, Rip Van Winkle
Highest Timeform Ratings of all-time:
145 Sea Bird II
144 Brigadier Gerard, Tudor Minstrel
142 Abernant, Ribot, Windy City
141 Mill Reef
140 Dancing Brave, Dubai Millennium, Shergar, Vaguely Noble.
This takes me to the Arc on 4th Oct, I was sure that Sea the Stars was by-passing the easy history making St Ledger to go for the Arc and at 9/1 would appear generous? He is planning to run at the Ebor meeting on the 18th August and expected to win the International Stakes.
The Arc betting is 9/2 Fame and Glory, 7/1 Stacelita, 10/1 Sariska ( she will probably go for the Yorkshire Oaks at the Ebor meeting and win on the bit?).
So a bit speculation could get you a decent bet early, but its your money.
On the rugby, the Boks are playing well and are evens to win the tri-nations.
The English soccer season will be underway soon 2/1 Chelsea, 22/10 Unt, 7/2 Pool and 10/1 the Gunners, and big spending Man City are evens without the top 4.
Good punting and may your God be with you.
