South Africa: Pocket Power, who has already earned legendary status in his a legend in his native South Africa, looks set to be given the chance to display his considerable talents on the world stage early next year.
In the past trainer Mike Bass has firmly resisted the temptation to send his champion to Dubai but on Wednesday his daughter and assistant Candice Robinson indicated a change of heart.
She said: "Pocket Power is probably going to go to Dubai for the Carnival season. We haven't made a final decision yet but it looks like we may go that way."
Bass's previous reluctance was due to Pocket Power's repeated problems with his near-fore foot which tended to get jarred up inside the hoof.
Bass had inspected the old Nad AlSheba training track and was convinced it was unsuitable for Pocket Power.
However the foot has been sound throughout recent months and the new training track at Meydan is a state-of-the-art affair that is not expected tocause difficulties for any horse with a foot problem.
In the meantime Pocket Power has a point to prove in the Champions Cup at Clairwood on July 25.
He suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Buy And Sell in this 1m1f Grade 1 12 months ago.
The dual Horse of the Year has also to make amends for last Saturday's Durban July when he started hot favourite but could manage only a fast-finishing fifth behind Big City Life.
He jumped awkwardly and immediately found himself near the back of the 20-runner field. Mike de Kock's South African Classic winner Forest Path then made things even more difficult for him by slowing the pace.
Robinson confirmed that Pocket Power came out of Saturday's race in good shape and is an intended starter at Clairwood.
The six-year-old has won 16 of his 31 starts, including eight Grade 1 races, and his SAR 8.3 million (£642,000) earnings are a South African record.
