Jockey licences
15 years 11 months ago
This is my first posting after viewing for a while, so thanks to Dave for the opportunity
I would like to ask those in the know how someone gets a jockey licence these days. I ask this as it concerns me that it seems that this process is becoming as ludicrously easy as it is to get a trainers licence.
I see names of people that are "apprentice" jockeys and have a riding mass of 54kg. I am told that the person in question is in his twenties and has secured a temporary licence from the Jockey Club.
My question is what will happen should one of these "jocks" cause a major accident ( god forbid )?

I know that some special licenses are only handed out once the Appie in question has successfully completed James Maree's course and shown that he/she is a competent rider.
They then usually apprentice themselves to a trainer who teaches them to finer ropes.
A while ago I was considering taking out a special apprentice license.
I wonder if these special apprentices also need to complete their 10 qualifying rides up the straight?

Good article on Inside Racing with regards to Derrick David, as always a good show with Robin Bruss, but missed Jessica, that is one classy lassie.
Not sure it is easy to get a jockey license?
