Alyson and her husband Kevin are both top class horse people and I would recommend any owners looking for a trainer to give them a chance.

Unfortunately for the Natal trainers, they do not have too many owners with the buying power of the Cape and JHB owners. Hence the performances of the KZN trainers. There are a lot of good trainers in KZN with really bad or average horses.
Mrs O has spread her horses amongst some of our trainers and we may start seeing some results from the KZN locals soon. I just wish that more owners would consider this as an option. Stakes will probably hinder this process though from JHB side.
For me Dennis Drier has to be right up at the top of the pile and the fact that Desert Links was left in his care for the July and Gold Cup says a lot about him as a trainer. You have to respect the opinion of one of the greats of this sport, Basil Marcus.

I honestly cannot believe that a certain trainer in KZN can buy horses for 500k to 800k and take 3-5 runs before cracking its maiden.
I agree with Adios , its not the buying power but the buying ability. Their have been trainers/owners that are purchasing 50k - 100k buys and winning 3-4 in a row.
People in KZN have money but they place it in all the wrong hands.

Are Natal buyers featuring in the top 5 or even top 10 in terms of purchasing? Lets face it there are no Marcus Joostes in Natal now are there?

Corinne Bestel as good as Wright - which she proved years ago with horses like Suave, Azuaga and ....sherbert I'm tired - but there were a lot of particularly good sprinters under her care in the nineties.
She is honest, a horse lover, answers her cellphone and has a great personality - I don't think one other trainer in KZN can tick yes in all four those boxes??
