KY Derby favorite scratched...AGAIN!

For the second time this week, the ante-post favorite for the Kentucky Derby has been scratched. This morning it was I Want Revenge who came up with a sore front fetlock.

This allowed racing traditionalists a chance to breathe easier, knowing that the race would not be won by a trainer from the Dark Side, as Jeff Mullins, who conditions I Want Revenge, is considered to be one of the nation's two biggest cheaters. His counterpart, Rick Dutrow, won the Run for the Roses last year with Big Brown.

The new favorite--the third this week--is Friesan Fire, at odds of about 5 to 1. The track will be sloppy and he loves it wet. His popular trainer Larry Jones has announced his retirement at the end of the year, so he will be a sentimental pick to win. He trained Eight Belles, the filly that broke down and died in the Derby last year.

You cannot write a better story than that...

Actually you can, because Larry Jones isn't really going to retire. He is quitting to lose an owner, and will return with his own horses owned by him and his wife and some friends!

But you won't read that story anywhere!
