Ra :champions day
16 years 1 month agoFeature racing on the Highveld has been galloping along - exciting racing indeed - and we look forward to the culmination of the autumn season on Champions Day, Saturday April 25, with no fewer than eight feature races carded.
Champions Day race-goers stand to win fantastic prizes of free betting vouchers, courtesy of Phumelela. A free-entry, lucky-draw competition worth a whopping R75 000 - with a R30 000 first prize - is open to the general public, and there'll be a separate special draw for patrons in the Elevation Room.
The dress theme for the Elevation Room is "Bedazzled", and our guests are invited to don their "bling". Our last social this season will be held in the Elevation Room after the last race, ending at about 9pm. RA members are welcome to join us for sundowners. A cash bar will be in operation.
RA members are reminded to use the Marble Arch entrance for parking as they will not be allowed access from Turf Club Road.
Preparations are well under way for the RA's Highveld Feature Season Awards, to be held in the Aquanaut Room on Thursday May 7. There are a limited number of seats available for RA members and the public at a cost of R350 per head, all-inclusive. We have arranged a fashion show for the evening, with top designers invited to showcase their ranges ahead of the Vodacom Durban July season and to promote the "Dress for Success" theme.
The recent Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale recorded remarkably good results considering the prevailing economic downturn. Some expert observers even dubbed it the best-performing sale in the world this year. I wish you well with your new stock!
Many thanks to the members who returned the questionnaires circulated with the last newsletter. The information certainly helps us in our efforts to meet members' needs and desires. For those who haven't responded as yet, a timely reminder: you need to have completed questionnaires in by the end of April in order to qualify for Phumelela's lucky draw for a R500 betting voucher.
With the Vodacom Durban July drawing near, Gold Circle has allocated 60 seats to RA members in the Durban View Room. These seats are available at R1 100 per head and preference is given to RA members with runners at Greyville on the day. If you want your name to be included on a waiting list for these tickets, email Merle Parker or call her on (011) 683-3220.
Hope you lead in a winner really soon.
Yours in racing,
Clyde Basel

There you go Elvis, I think we must hand in those RA application forms real quick; this year they are arranging some July tickets for us at the bargain basement price of R1100 - wasn't it R1400 last year? If the price keeps on coming down like this, we may be able to go in about 5 years time.
Also if we get our applications approved today, we can take part in the 'social' after the last race tomorrow - just remember your wallet as a cash bar will be in operation

Hi Frodo,
maybe we should renew our R.A. membership with bargains like this now up for grabs. It's quite obvious that the worlwide recession has hit our local racecourses as well & perhaps Greyville is worried they won't fill up all members seats come JULY day.
For those that don't know - Frodo & I paid R 700 p.h. in 2006 for July day - asking price 2008 July 1400 p.h. My how the wheel turns.
On second thoughts, I'll watch from the comforts of home. Been there - got the T.Shirt.
