JJ 10/1 for ascot
16 years 1 month agoThe Hungarian-trained sprint star Overdose heads Coral's betting for both the King's Stand Stakes and Golden Jubilee Stakes, at 3-1 and 4-1 respectively, in Coral's opening shows on the Royal Ascot Group Ones, and is also 10-1 to win both races.
Last year's European champion sprinter, Marchand D'Or, is 6-1 second favourite for both races, ahead of the Australian Group One winner Scenic Blast, who is 7-1 for the five-furlong King's Stand Stakes, and 8-1, along with regular visitor Takeover Target, for the furlong longer Golden Jubilee Stakes.
"The false start that affected last year's Prix de l'Abbaye meant Overdose was not given the chance to take on Europe's best sprinters last season, but following his comeback win in Hungary at the weekend, we favour the 'Budapest Bullet' to beat not only Europe's best, but the top sprinters from Australia and South Africa as well," said Coral's David Stevens.
Coral has also opened betting on the Ascot Gold Cup, for which the Aidan O'Brien-trained Yeats is the red-hot 6-4 favourite to win a record fourth Gold Cup.
"The fact that connections have not even entered their leading stayer Septimus for the race shows how keen they are to see Yeats make history with a fourth Gold Cup win this summer," said Stevens.

In December last year, Mythical Flight had his first (only) run outside of South Africa. It was a 1200 metre race in Hong Kong. I think most would agree that he's better over 1000 metres, and it was his first start in 7 months. In that race, he finished 7th, beaten 2.25 lengths and was only half-a-length behind Marchand D'Or. Since that race, Marchand D'Or has run once, finishing last in the dirt sprint on Dubai World Cup night.
Betting here is Marchand D'Or 6/1, Mythical Flight 20/1 over 1000 metres?
National Colour had 3 races in Europe last year, following her two runs in Dubai (a win and the bad slip in the dirt race in WC night). We can safely ignore the run in France when she ran the race twice after the false start. We all know she's a 1000 metre speedball and running it twice in one day isn't going to help her chances.
In her previous start, she finished 2nd to Borderlescott by half-a-length and had Kingsgate Native, Equiano, and Moorhouse Lad behind her. The start before, her first start in Europe after more than a year off the track, she was beaten by Equiano (2.25L), Takeover Target (1.75L), and Fleeting Spirit (1.55) with Kingsgate Native and Moorhouse Lad behind her.
Considering Mythical Flight's HK run and National Colour's Newmarket run, is it unreasonable to think that J J should be higher up the board - if not for the 1000 metre King's Stand, then surely for the Golden Jubilee?

Sabre, the 5f will prob be too 'sharp' for JJ - unless we have some cut in the ground which will bring him into it more.
The 2nd race I believe is over 6f and he will take a world of beating imho and in my book a 5/2-3/1 shot and I shall bite there arms off for bigger.
Go JJ Go!!!
