I did a few quick calculations using Bettingworld, Pearlbetting and Interbet's Champions Day prices as a comparison of betting percentages.
The average betting percentage for each company was around 125%. Now I know it's the day before the meeting and the percentages often shorten near the off time but surely 125% is nothing short of a disgrace.
If you check the Betfair prices the day before a UK meeting the usual percentage is 106-110%, which shortens to nothing more than 103% at race time.
The bookies in SA really have got no balls and are just not interested in taking any risk. I was thinking of having a few early bets on Champions day but I just thought what a farce, at those prices what chance has one got.
Maybe if the bookies realised that by making the odds more attractive they could entice more punters, create more turnnover and therefore earn more commision (in nominal terms) on their book.
I hope that 1 day all the punters decide unilaterally that they arent having another bet with a bookie until the bang gat bookies prices improve. Maybe the gambling commision can create some sort of law that prohibits the betting percentage of a race being at being more than 110%, period.
One can only dream I suppose!

We keep hearing about bad prices and little going back to racing....what more is it going to take to legalise exchanges. It is surely merely delaying the inevitable.
I believe with a bit of publicity, exchanges would cause a new wave of players attempting to become good traders.
Can't see the downside myself!

Pirates you are spot on. Dean is so proud to offer 121% and "everyone can have a good bet at these prices". Can wait for exchanges to be legalised as then we will see how the bookies squirm as the betting public turn away from bookies who have been holding us to ransom for years.

the best is the STRETCH..WOW WEE when you bet to these pathetic percentages what difference does it make when you give a STRETCH..like going to a bazaar and the traders says was 89 rand but for you 69rand and he is still ripping you off.shrek only very few in this country will have access to exchanges as you need a laptop and a credit card so joe public will still be ripped off .
