I made a mistake by saying Renegade went up - his 107 rating is a sand rating.
His turf rating stayed the same as it was.
Sorry for that.

Merit rating appeal succeeds

NHA PRESS RELEASE:

AN APPEAL was lodged by Mr M Wall and Anfield Sports (Pty) Ltd (Nominee Mr Marlon Aronstam), on behalf of the horse COMBAT LEADER, against the Merit Rating of 107 that was not adjusted after his run on 4 April 2009 at the Turffontein Racecourse.
An independent panel consisting of Messrs R J Bloomberg, G Hawkins and M Lips was convened to hear this Appeal on 9 April 2009.

The Panel was unanimously of the opinion that the 6 point MR adjustment that was allocated to COMBAT LEADER after contesting a conditions race on 15 March 2009, was unjustified and believed that the horse RED FLYER would have been a more appropriate line horse as it confirmed the form of their previous meeting on 22 February 2009. The Panel therefore decided that the MR of COMBAT LEADER should be reduced to a MR of 103, which reflects his performance achieved on 22 February 2009.

The deposit will be refunded.
